This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead and enhance the Scientific Program Management function at Sage Bionetworks.
• Establish practices, standards, operating rhythms, roles, responsibilities, and methodologies for scientific program management.
• Guide a team of Scientific Program Managers by providing coaching, feedback, performance support, and opportunities for career advancement.
• Oversee the portfolio and encourage consistent, effective execution.
• Collaborate with scientific, technical, operational, and organizational leaders on priorities, dependencies, constraints, and resource requirements.
• Identify competing priorities, capacity constraints, sequencing considerations, and organizational trade-offs.
• Implement proactive management of program and portfolio-level risks, dependencies, and issues.
• Maintain communication mechanisms for portfolio status, priorities, milestones, risks, dependencies, and resource requirements.
• Create portfolio reports to aid leadership decision-making.
• Support and intervene in programs encountering significant challenges, removing obstacles and escalating issues as necessary.
• Develop tools, systems, frameworks, planning practices, reporting expectations, and risk management strategies for program management.
• Manage capacity and workload for Scientific Program Management across various programs.
• Promote continuous improvement and the adoption of technology, automation, and AI-enabled methodologies.
• Cultivate a collaborative Scientific Program Management community through shared learning, mentoring, cross-training, and knowledge sharing.
• Encourage accountability, collaboration, transparency, continuous improvement, and shared ownership.
• Bachelor's degree in Life Sciences, Business, a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• 7+ years of progressive experience in scientific program management or a closely related field, including responsibility for leading complex, cross-functional scientific programs.
• 3+ years of experience in directly managing, mentoring, and/or developing Scientific Program Managers or other experienced program management professionals.
• Proven experience in building, scaling, or significantly enhancing a Program Management function, operating model, or organizational practice.
• Experience leading programs that involve multiple scientific disciplines, teams, stakeholders, or organizational dependencies.
• Demonstrated ability to operate strategically while being closely involved in program execution to identify and resolve emerging issues.
• Experience in influencing decisions and creating alignment across teams and leaders without relying solely on formal authority.
• Strong judgment and the capability to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and evolving organizational needs.
• Ability to sit for extended periods at a desk and use a computer.
• Repetitive wrist, hand, and finger movements required.
• Clear vision for data analysis, transcription, computer usage, and reading.
• Capability to occasionally lift or move objects weighing up to 10 pounds.
• Ability to work effectively under deadlines.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Attention to detail and precision.
• Flexibility to adapt to changing environments, priorities, and multitasking.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Works well within a team while maintaining professionalism.
• Adheres to company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
• Ability to travel twice a year for on-site events in Seattle, WA.
