Associate Director – Regional Pathology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Provide scientific oversight and direction for regional anatomic pathology assessments.

• Review study protocols, proposals, and designs related to pathology studies.

• Offer expertise in pathology to clients and regulatory bodies for study interpretation, regulatory submissions, and scientific consultations.

• Ensure that pathology evaluations adhere to GLP, OECD, FDA, ISO, and other relevant standards.

• Maintain consistency, quality, and accuracy in pathology diagnoses across various pathologists and locations.

• Conduct pathology evaluations, microscopic examinations, slide reviews, peer reviews, and consultations.

• Lead regional pathology operations, optimizing workflows, productivity, turnaround times, quality, and client satisfaction.

• Establish and monitor departmental metrics, KPIs, and operational dashboards.

• Collaborate with histology, necropsy, study directors, quality assurance, and laboratory operations teams.

• Support the implementation of new pathology methodologies, technologies, and service offerings.

• Plan staffing and resource allocation to meet current and future business needs.

• Directly manage and develop US pathologists and pathology personnel.

• Oversee recruitment, hiring, onboarding, retention, performance management, succession planning, and career development.

• Assign workloads and monitor resource distribution.

• Develop training and competency assessment programs for pathology.

• Coordinate peer review and initiatives aimed at ensuring diagnostic quality.

• Assist with audits, regulatory inspections, client audits, and corrective actions.

• Collaborate with senior leadership on departmental objectives, growth strategies, and operational plans.

• Engage in business development, client interactions, proposal development, conferences, professional societies, and industry meetings.

• Serve as the study pathologist for compliant nonclinical studies.

• Develop pathology methodologies for protocols and produce timely, accurate pathology reports.

• Work with facility veterinarians on diagnostic pathology data and colony health goals.

• Participate in necropsies and provide training to associates on necropsy procedures.

• Offer technical guidance to histologists and train staff in gross pathology and histology techniques.

• Maintain a GLP-compliant workspace and conduct calibration and validation activities.

• Assist in research focused on techniques for identifying and interpreting pathological conditions.

⛳️ Requirements

• A degree in Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Medical Doctor (MD) from an accredited institution is essential.

• A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience is required.

• Board certification in anatomic pathology by the ACVP, ECVP, or equivalent organizations is preferred.

• Ability to comply with GLP, FDA, ISO, OECD, SOP, and other regulatory or compendial standards.

• Capability to work with livestock, domestic, and laboratory animals.

• Proficiency in handling sharp objects, formaldehyde, toxic or caustic chemicals, and potential biological hazards.

• Ability to perform necessary physical tasks, including standing for extended periods and lifting up to 50 pounds, or up to 100 pounds with assistance.

• Competency in using computers and viewing monitors.

• Required vision capabilities include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
