Associate Counsel

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New York.

📋 Description

• Represent clients in lawsuits initiated in New York courts and manage various first-party insurance defense cases.

• Serve venues throughout Manhattan, Staten Island, and the Bronx in New York.

• Conduct legal research and draft briefs, opinions, and memoranda.

• Provide assessments on liability, damages, and value as requested by the Claims Department.

• Draft and manage pleadings, motions, and discovery processes.

• Oversee depositions/examinations prior to trial and examinations under oath.

• Defend assigned cases through trial or dispositive hearings, as necessary.

⛳️ Requirements

• 2 to 6+ years of experience in litigation, specifically in insurance defense and/or personal injury.

• Juris Doctor degree is REQUIRED.

• Admission to the New York Bar is REQUIRED.

• Must hold a valid license in good standing to practice law in New York.

• Required to meet and maintain all licensing obligations, including mandatory Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements when applicable.

• Must be willing to travel as needed for trials, hearings, depositions, management meetings, and conferences.

• Ability to document files clearly, concisely, and professionally in writing.

• Capable of following complex instructions and resolving conflicts or facilitating conflict resolution.

• Strong skills in organization, priority-setting, and multitasking.

• Ability to learn and apply extensive amounts of technical and procedural information.

• Preferred: Experience in civil litigation.

• Preferred: Background in insurance defense-related litigation.

• Professional communication skills required for in-person interactions, telephone conversations, and written correspondence/email.
