Assistant Controller, Client Onboarding

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Initiate new client projects by collecting system access, relevant documents, and information regarding the client’s business and accounting history.

• Evaluate clients’ accounting frameworks, chart of accounts, technology stack, and past records to pinpoint areas needing cleanup, gaps, and potential risks.

• Onboard new clients into Topo’s systems and tools, which includes designing or restructuring the chart of accounts, integrating bank and credit card feeds, and connecting with payroll, billing, and expense platforms.

• Conduct historical cleanups, which entail account reconciliations, catch-up bookkeeping, reclassifications, and necessary adjusting entries.

• Execute clients’ first month-end closes in collaboration with Topo.

• Create close checklists, reconciliation timelines, and reporting packages.

• Assist with the initial setup of budgets and cash flow when applicable.

• Document and establish accounting processes and workflows, covering accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue, and expense management.

• Suggest enhancements to existing processes.

• Collaborate with tax advisors and previous accountants to gather records and address any outstanding issues.

• Provide support and mentorship to Topo team members involved in onboarding projects.

• Investigate technical accounting inquiries and offer guidance both internally and to clients.

• Prepare comprehensive handoff documentation and facilitate the transition to the ongoing Topo accounting team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 4 years of experience in public accounting, corporate accounting, finance, or a related field.

• Proven experience with month-end closing processes, reconciliations, and cleanup or catch-up accounting.

• Exceptional quantitative skills.

• Significant proficiency with spreadsheet applications.

• Familiarity with QuickBooks.

• Experience in implementing or migrating accounting systems and integrated tools is advantageous.

• Ability to adapt to ambiguity, uncertainty, and evolving business environments.

• Highly organized with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.

• Self-motivated individual capable of translating ideas into action.

• Comfortable engaging directly with clients, posing insightful questions, and establishing clear expectations.

• Capable of managing multiple onboarding projects at various stages while ensuring adherence to tight deadlines.

• Proficient in drafting clear documentation that others can easily utilize.

• Skilled in transitioning between high-level strategic thinking and tactical execution.

• CPA certification is strongly preferred.

• Must have authorization to work in the United States without the need for current or future sponsorship.
