Assistant Controller

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Manage comprehensive accounting for funding structures and SPV legal entities, encompassing legal-entity and chart-of-accounts design, journal-entry creation, recurring close activities, reconciliations, and support for financial statements.

• Lead the accounting workstream for new securitizations and funding transactions from Day 1 execution through operational readiness, post-close stabilization, and ongoing processes.

• Take ownership of recurring reporting support for trustees, investors, and lenders.

• Design, document, and implement controls for funding, SPV, and associated accounting processes; identify gaps and initiate remediation efforts.

• Assist with SOX, internal audit, and external audit requirements.

• Ensure the quality and timeliness of the US month-end close by reviewing intricate accounting activities, balance-sheet substantiation, journal entries, fluctuations, and resolving issues.

• Contribute to the US GAAP audited financial statement process, including the preparation of statements, disclosures, audit schedules, technical accounting documentation, and resolution of audit requests.

• Oversee and evaluate treasury, payroll, and compensation-related accounting activities, reconciliations, and controls.

• Collaborate with Treasury, Legal, Finance Systems, Credit Risk, Banking/Funding teams, and Audit on changes, incidents, control effectiveness, and reporting.

• Promote process standardization, documentation, and automation across the controllership function.

• Act as a senior accounting subject-matter expert on new products, business changes, and complex transactions.

• Convert accounting requirements into scalable operating processes and actionable recommendations for stakeholders.

⛳️ Requirements

• Minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in Accounting or Finance, encompassing controllership, audit, complex month-end close, financial reporting, and balance-sheet management.

• In-depth knowledge of US GAAP; familiarity with IFRS is a plus.

• CPA or CA certification; experience with Big 4 audit firms is advantageous.

• Practical experience with structured finance, securitization, SPVs, funding facilities, or comparable legal-entity accounting.

• Background in financial services, fintech, private credit, or capital markets is highly preferred.

• Proven experience in designing, documenting, and executing internal controls, including SOX environments, audit coordination, and remediation of process or control deficiencies.

• Capability to interpret transaction terms and business requirements into accounting conclusions, journal-entry logic, chart-of-accounts design, reconciliations, reporting, and sustainable closing processes.

• Ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives through effective coaching, prioritization, and interpersonal skills, while communicating with and influencing stakeholders at various management levels, managing expectations, and driving issues to resolution.

• Strong analytical abilities and exceptional attention to detail.

• Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency in Excel and a strong aptitude for systems.

• Experience in enhancing accounting processes through improved data management, reconciliations, workflow design, and automation.

• Comfort in navigating ambiguity and limited precedents, demonstrating independence and judgment to adapt in a dynamic environment.
