Archaeology Field Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Arizona, +6 more states.

📋 Description

• Conduct archaeological pedestrian surveys.

• Gather archaeological data utilizing GPS, photographs, site forms, site sketches, and artifact sketches.

• Execute subsurface testing or identify artifacts.

• Measure and accurately document artifacts.

• Create high-quality field notes.

• Collaborate as a team member or work independently, as needed.

• Carry out responsibilities related to archaeological fieldwork across the Western United States.

• Perform additional tasks as requested.

• Travel overnight and during the day as necessary to support field activities.

• Participate in projects that require extended remote camping.

• Optionally engage in post-field office work at the discretion of the Project Field Director and Principal Investigator.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a related field.

• Minimum of 6 months of archaeological field experience or field school experience.

• Experience in conducting archaeological surveys and excavations.

• Capability to work in diverse and often challenging terrains, hiking up to 5 to 10 miles daily.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with others and proactively contribute to a project team.

• Exceptional attention to detail and skills in thorough note-taking.

• Possession of a valid driver's license.

• Proficiency in operating GPS units and navigating with USGS maps/aerial photography and compass is preferred.

• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

• Understanding of and compliance with company safety standards.

• Access to a laptop or computer for completing timesheets, expense reports, and other office tasks.

• Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 as a condition of employment, with exceptions for bona fide medical and religious reasons.

• Ability to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds occasionally.

• Successful completion of fit for work testing, including Drug & Alcohol testing.
