Applied Research Engineer – AI Agent Research, Development, Client Implementation

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Japan.

📋 Description

• Conduct research, development, and enhancement of sophisticated AI agents using LLMs, RAG, and other relevant AI technologies.

• Create and refine the fundamental logic, architectures, and workflows of AI agents.

• Design and carry out Proofs of Concept (PoCs) to validate research outcomes and assess practical business applications.

• Develop and deploy AI agent solutions customized for enterprise client needs.

• Create evaluation frameworks and ongoing improvement processes for AI agents in production.

• Perform accuracy assessments, benchmarking, prompt enhancements, and workflow optimization.

• Collaborate with Product Managers and consultants to convert customer business challenges into technical specifications.

• Drive technical decision-making through experimentation, validation, and practical implementation.

• Work in partnership with AI/NLP researchers, engineers, Product Managers, and consultants.

• Utilize insights from experiments and client implementations to enhance AI products and future research projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Research experience in AI, Natural Language Processing (NLP), or Machine Learning, encompassing both academic and industry research.

• Proficient knowledge and practical experience in developing Generative AI technologies, including LLMs, RAG, or AI agents.

• Strong skills in Python programming, enabling independent experimentation, result evaluation, and prototype development.

• Capability to assess technical validation outcomes from both product development and business value perspectives.

• Skill in translating experimental results into actionable technical enhancements and product development strategies.

• Must be able to reside in Japan.

• Experience in designing, developing, or assessing LLM-based AI agents and agent workflows.

• Background in creating AI evaluation frameworks, benchmarking systems, or accuracy assessment processes.

• Proven experience leading customer-facing PoC projects or applied AI research and development initiatives.

• Experience in commercializing research findings or integrating cutting-edge AI technologies into production products.

• Familiarity with statistical modeling, Bayesian inference, or probabilistic modeling.

• Experience in publishing or presenting research at international conferences, academic journals, or domestic research events.

• Experience in corporate R&D settings, AI startups, or research-driven product development contexts.

• A strong passion for merging advanced AI research with real-world business applications.

• High level of ownership and the ability to independently manage research, experimentation, and implementation.

• Capacity to connect academic research, engineering, and enterprise business needs.

• Excellent analytical thinking, problem-solving, and technical decision-making abilities.

• Comfortable navigating evolving requirements and creating solutions through hypothesis-driven experimentation.

• Enthusiasm for collaborating with researchers, engineers, and enterprise clients to create innovative AI products.
