This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Accountable for the architecture of agentic systems and the development of the agent harness, encompassing orchestration, tool interfaces, sandboxing, permission models, state and memory management, subagents, and execution/tracing.
• Responsible for the creation of loop engineering and context management, which includes abort-and-handover logic, budgets, context compression, and cross-session memory.
• Development of scalable services using Python and TypeScript, featuring APIs, asynchronous processing, queues, backpressure, rate limits, idempotence, and tenant isolation.
• Constructing the data and retrieval layer, from ingestion and normalization to vector and full-text indexing.
• Assessing and enhancing retrieval quality.
• Performing evaluations on trajectories, conducting regression testing for prompts and tools, and establishing guardrails.
• Managing the systems using containerization, CI/CD, and monitoring, while also overseeing latency and model costs.
• Collaborating with coding agents, evaluating models and frameworks, and jointly determining the technology stack and on-premise deployment strategies.
• Working closely in a small team alongside the Head of AI.
• Several years of experience in backend or platform engineering.
• Demonstrated experience operating agentic systems in production environments, not limited to proofs of concept.
• Familiarity with tool-calling, tool design, MCP, planning and reflection patterns, and multi-agent configurations with subagents.
• Expertise in designing execution loops, context compression, and cross-session state management.
• Proficient in writing clean, testable code in Python and TypeScript.
• Experience in API development using FastAPI or Node.
• Daily engagement with coding agents.
• Background in managing systems under load, including concurrency, queues, rate limits, and distributed state.
• Experience with Docker, CI/CD, and deployments on AWS, Azure, GCP, or on-premises servers.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and local GPU environments is advantageous.
• Experience with ETL and ELT pipelines, vector databases, evaluations, tracing, and observability.
• Understanding of latency and token cost considerations.
• Capability to design GDPR-compliant architectures, involving tenant isolation, secrets handling, rights for agent tools, and cloud/on-premise delineation.
• Excellent command of German at a C2 level.
• Proficient in English.
