Application Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the allocation of resources and systems necessary for the installation of application software in both production and testing environments.

• Formulate and implement strategies for data conversion, application software validation, and validation of system-to-system interfaces.

• Generate comprehensive documentation for systems.

• Serve as the primary point of contact for troubleshooting and resolving issues related to clinical application systems.

• Analyze issues and devise corrective action plans that encompass procedures, workflows, or data entry instructions.

• Collaborate with ITG, customers, and vendors to determine root causes and execute solutions.

• Organize and oversee application fixes and upgrades while minimizing disruptions.

• Monitor essential systems and interfaces, which include ADT, order entry, results reporting, and billing.

• Offer expert technical guidance on clinical applications to ITG and clinical staff.

• Conduct diagnostic evaluations on applications, servers, and technical systems.

• Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for healthcare clinical and administrative applications.

• Implement departmental healthcare information systems using detailed project plans, dependencies, and critical path tasks.

• Track and delegate project tasks, ensuring timely completion.

• Identify milestones and communicate any missed or at-risk milestones to management.

• Schedule and prepare for progress meetings and supply project reports to management.

• Coordinate project tasks that involve phone lines, power sources, server delivery and configuration, backup strategies, and disaster recovery priorities.

• Develop system specifications in collaboration with hospital department managers, supervisors, staff, and ITG support personnel.

• Assist in identifying RFPs, coordinating resources, conducting cost-benefit analyses, and evaluating alternatives.

• Work alongside customers, vendors, and ITG to pinpoint hardware and software requirements for new systems.

• Review system performance with customers to identify, prioritize, and manage ITG projects.

• Seek opportunities to streamline, consolidate, and enhance system performance.

• Supervise server, database, application/desktop integration, and security within the OHSU/Partners computing environment.

• Recommend application software deployment for both thin and fat clients.

• Monitor system activities across various operating systems and comprehend database structures.

• Conduct system analysis, specification, testing, and validation for new installations, upgrades, and clinical application interfaces.

• Support the implementation of system-to-system interfaces and coordinate system connectivity configurations.

• Create validation and testing documentation for new systems, interfaces, and version upgrades.

• Develop training materials and provide training to customers and operations/help desk personnel.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in computer science, a related field, or a clinical field, along with six years of relevant experience in information technology, or a combination of clinical or operational healthcare settings; OR an Associate’s degree and seven years of related experience; OR eight years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Two or more years of paid experience as a Systems/Application Analyst or Application Administrator.

• Proficient knowledge of operating system software, relational and/or hierarchical databases, and technical application support for administrative and clinical systems.

• Experience in analyzing technical systems.

• Experience in developing specifications for system-to-system interfaces.

• Experience in conducting business analysis and assessing technical impacts.

• Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously.

• Experience in managing complex customer relationships in an enterprise environment.

• Familiarity with device integration and network communication.

• Experience in managing and supporting multiple applications and technical systems.

• Strong project management capabilities, with a proven track record in scheduling, design, testing, and implementation.

• Robust system analysis skills.

• Ability to maintain operating systems, installed applications, and interfaces, including upgrades, patches, technical configuration changes, and security measures.

• Strong troubleshooting skills related to technical and clinical workflow issues.

• Ability to gather and document necessary support information.

• Capability to work effectively with colleagues and diverse teams in a hospital environment.

• Preferred: BS Degree in Computer Science or a related field.

• Preferred: Experience in Healthcare Information Systems.

• Preferred: Familiarity with terminal emulation software, file transfer, and data conversions.

• Preferred: Experience in writing system validation plans.

• Preferred: Experience or training in Imaging, Cardiology, Labs, Pharmacy systems, and EPIC.

• Preferred: Medical device integration and management experience.

• Preferred: Document management experience.

• Preferred: Knowledge of healthcare IT regulatory policies and PHI regulatory requirements.

• Preferred: Working knowledge of HL7 and TCP/IP.

• Preferred: ITIL foundation certification.
