Apparel Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Vietnam.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the brand developer, sourcing developer, and vendor on product industrialization through both physical and virtual sampling throughout all stages of development, including innovation and concept.

• Ensure that products align with brand standards for safety, fit, functionality, performance, quality, and cost while applying risk management strategies.

• Oversee the transition from development to production, ensuring that products are ready for manufacturing.

• Verify that technical specifications are precise and comprehensive, address pre-production risks, and effectively communicate critical points of focus.

• Independently handle approvals for pre-production and re-allocation samples at the local level.

• Prepare for and engage in Brand Development, Collaboration, CKO, and Innovation Trips.

• Partner with brands and cross-functional teams to establish standardized processes across various brands and regions.

• Manage vendor performance and promote continuous improvement through training, sample room evaluations, and calibration protocols for TVCP/CFT.

• Assist in sourcing strategy by onboarding new vendors and enhancing the capabilities of existing vendors.

• Provide technical expertise and support to cross-functional teams, vendors, and brands.

• Proactively address stakeholder issues.

• Support product innovation trials and complex collaborations.

• Collaborate with brands on construction, sizing, grading, and block projects.

• Validate pattern overlays and samples prior to brand submission; approve patterns as necessary before sample creation.

• Review both virtual and physical samples, offer feedback, and update forms and systems accordingly.

• Work with brands on construction toolboxes, manuals, and updates to standard operating procedures (SOP).

• Manage discrepancies in Tech Packs and drive improvements in processes.

• Prepare for, support on-site activities, and follow up for brand trips.

• Allocate risk to orders and prioritize high-risk styles based on RBM guidance.

• Engage in Tech Pack handover and Risk Analysis meetings.

• Oversee rain room testing and follow up on Futurelight, Gore-Tex, GB testing, and any other necessary evaluations.

• Onboard new vendors and brands to existing ones; assist in vendor capability enhancement.

• Drive continuous improvement and standardization of processes through training across vendors, brands, and regions.

• Support TVCP and RBM programs, which include module creation, training initiatives, input, and ongoing calibration efforts.

• Attend Pre-Production and RAM Meetings as necessary.

• Frequently travel to factories.

• Engage in continuous learning, knowledge transfer, calibration, and various projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• Strong practical knowledge of product development from inception through production.

• Proficient in pattern making, with hands-on experience in both flat pattern making and draping techniques.

• Skilled in apparel sizing and pattern grading.

• Familiarity with computerized pattern systems, such as Gerber.

• Working knowledge of PLM systems, including Flex.

• Experience with 3D systems, like Browzwear.

• Proficient in Adobe Illustrator.

• Skilled in fitting on live models and body forms.

• Knowledgeable about garment construction standards and engineering practices.

• Understanding of raw material properties.

• Familiar with wet processing techniques, including garment washing and dyeing.

• Knowledgeable about garment testing and manufacturing methodologies.

• Ability to interpret design intent and suggest alternative solutions.

• Capable of working independently and proactively.

• Proficient in English and the local language.

• A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role.
