This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Design, implement, validate, and document complex statistical, geospatial, and remote sensing analyses.
• Create reproducible analytical workflows and production-quality code using R and other scientific computing environments.
• Perform analyses that support baseline development, leakage assessment, as well as permanence and durability strategies.
• Integrate and analyze extensive datasets sourced from remote sensing platforms, field inventories, program operations, environmental datasets, and relevant literature.
• Assess machine learning and AI technologies for enhancing scientific workflows and monitoring systems.
• Collaborate with scientists, program staff, and external partners to effectively translate inquiries into robust analytical methodologies.
• Document and convey methods, assumptions, uncertainties, and outcomes to technical experts and organizational leadership.
• Contribute to innovation, efficiency, and scientific progress aligned with AFF’s strategic priorities.
• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D. preferred) in forestry, ecology, natural resources, environmental science, statistics, geography, remote sensing, data science, or a related quantitative field.
• A minimum of 3-6 years of professional or postdoctoral experience in conducting advanced quantitative analyses within the environmental, natural resource, climate, forestry, conservation, or similar sectors.
• Strong expertise in R, Python, or comparable scientific computing environments.
• Solid foundation in statistical modeling, predictive analytics, uncertainty quantification, and applied data science.
• Experience in working with large geospatial and remote sensing datasets.
• Proficiency in utilizing GIS and spatial analysis tools.
• Experience in developing and maintaining reproducible analytical workflows and well-documented codebases.
• Experience in designing analytical strategies for intricate scientific or operational inquiries.
• Strong technical writing capabilities.
• Ability to convey complex analytical results to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience collaborating within multidisciplinary teams and managing multiple concurrent projects.
• Familiarity with cloud-based analytical environments such as AWS, Azure, or Google Earth Engine.
