This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Middle East.
• Conduct research and prepare reports, briefings, and concise publications that analyze and suggest solutions to prevent or alleviate deadly conflicts, with a particular focus on the foreign policies of Gulf Arab states and their impact on conflicts elsewhere.
• Advocate for Crisis Group's policy positions and recommendations concerning Gulf Arab states.
• Serve as a representative of the organization at events and in various media outlets, both locally and internationally, as appropriate.
• Perform comprehensive field research on the foreign policies of Gulf Arab states and their influence on conflicts around the world.
• Deliver clear and succinct written analyses in the form of detailed reports, briefing papers, podcasts, op-eds, and other shorter formats.
• Suggest policy recommendations and initiatives aimed at conflict actors as well as political, civil society, and other stakeholders at national, regional, and international levels.
• Promote Crisis Group's policy stances and recommendations regarding conflict.
• Assist the Project Director with Crisis Group initiatives and advocacy efforts both regionally and globally.
• Fulfill administrative responsibilities, including tracking activities and managing expenses.
• Oversee consultants and/or stringers as necessary.
• A minimum of an M.A. degree in international relations, political science, journalism, sociology, or a related field through experience.
• Current or previous extended residency in the Gulf region.
• Three to five years of professional experience in government, academia, international organizations, NGOs, or journalism.
• Excellent writing abilities with a knack for crafting precise and targeted policy recommendations.
• Demonstrated research and analytical capabilities, including the aptitude to propose and evaluate policy interventions.
• In-depth understanding of the region's key political, foreign policy, and conflict-related matters.
• A well-established network within governmental, non-governmental, media, and civil society sectors in Gulf Arab states and the surrounding region.
• Proficiency in English.
• Proficiency in Arabic is preferred.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including effective public presentation abilities and a robust capacity for teamwork.
• The ideal candidate should be located in the Gulf region.
• Must be able to reside in a Gulf-region country without requiring a sponsored work permit.
