This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Algeria, +2 more countries.
• Take full responsibility for the backend of the Smeetz MCP server and AI chatbot from start to finish, encompassing services, tool surface, agent logic, and guardrails.
• Design and develop APIs and integrations that connect the AI surfaces to the Smeetz platform for ticketing, bookings, and payments.
• Ensure the security, performance, and reliability meet production-grade standards.
• Manage reliability and performance metrics, including latency, error rates, cost per call, and client call patterns.
• Utilize Langfuse observability data to spot and resolve issues.
• Create the evaluation layer to assess prompt and model changes before their release.
• Participate in on-call duties for the services you own.
• Collaborate with the product owner and venue-facing teams to gain insights into operator usage and translate that into technical specifications and priorities.
• Analyze traces and usage data to detect failures or gaps and suggest future improvements.
• Define success metrics and provide reports on delivered outcomes.
• Document owned surfaces and enhance the shared Claude Code skill library.
• Report directly to the VP of Engineering without any direct reports.
• A minimum of 5 years of experience in shipping production code, with at least 3 years in backend engineering focused on building and running production APIs.
• Strong preference for experience in Node.js/TypeScript.
• Solid understanding of backend fundamentals, including API design, data modeling, authentication and permissions, queues and asynchronous processing, as well as debugging under production load.
• Experience shipping at least one LLM-based feature to real users and managing its backend aspects, including tool calling, structured outputs, cost and latency control, and handling production failure modes.
• Proven ownership of a production system, including on-call responsibilities.
• Daily experience using Claude Code or a similar agentic environment beyond mere autocomplete.
• Ability to communicate effectively with non-technical stakeholders and transform their challenges into technical tasks.
• Proficiency in English is required.
• Nice to have: experience designing tool or API surfaces for agents.
• Nice to have: knowledge of MCP specifications beyond client usage.
• Nice to have: familiarity with Anthropic Claude API and tool utilization.
• Nice to have: experience with Langfuse or comparable tools such as LangSmith, Braintrust, or Phoenix.
• Nice to have: experience with evaluations and retrieval from a support knowledge base; experience with Intercom Fin is relevant.
• Nice to have: experience in establishing agent guardrails with write access, including permissions, confirmation steps, prompt injection, and PII management.
• Nice to have: product-engineering experience in shaping priorities.
• Proficiency in French or German is a plus.
