This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Enhance AI-driven chat and voice services that facilitate customer service and lending operations.
• Develop and manage agent workflows, API-integrated tools, guidelines, retrieval rules, and escalation processes.
• Evaluate workflows for logical errors, unsafe actions, routing issues, and unnecessary model context.
• Implement structured development, staging, testing, review, and production-release methodologies.
• Collaborate with domain experts responsible for customer experience, policies, and lending processes.
• Assess whether issues are best addressed through workflow logic, deterministic coding, retrieval, an LLM, or product modifications.
• Create automated tests and simulations for conversational workflows.
• Establish and track metrics for containment, escalation, answer quality, task completion, and customer impact.
• Develop tagging, monitoring, and quality assurance systems for live conversations.
• Investigate failures and translate production data into prioritized enhancements.
• Construct pipelines that provide conversational data for analytics and reporting systems.
• Design controlled experiments and gradual rollouts to evaluate business impact.
• Develop Python services and APIs that reveal AI functionalities.
• Facilitate integrations between AI systems and Figure's internal services.
• Create data and evaluation pipelines utilizing Python and SQL.
• Contribute to internal tools and user interfaces.
• Acquire and implement Figure's deployment, monitoring, containerization, and CI/CD practices.
• Gradually take ownership of increasingly significant production engineering projects.
• Inventory and assess conversational tools that interface with internal or third-party APIs.
• Ensure that sensitive operations utilize deterministic validation rather than unreliable model judgment.
• Support the appropriate management of customer data, credentials, PII, and regulated workflows.
• Maintain audit trails for workflow modifications and production behavior.
• Raise security, compliance, and reliability issues using sound technical reasoning.
• Within the first six months, gain a thorough understanding of Figure's conversational AI workflows and integrations, enhance testing/monitoring/security/release disciplines, resolve workflow reliability challenges, produce performance reports, launch at least one production integration/service/internal tool, and demonstrate increasing autonomy in Python, APIs, data, evaluation, and deployment.
• Over time, transition towards broader full-stack AI engineering as conversational systems achieve better governance and operational responsibilities become more distributed.
• Strong programming fundamentals and practical experience with Python.
• Familiarity with SQL and structured data analysis.
• Ability to decompose ambiguous problems into testable components.
• Comfort in reading unfamiliar code and tracing system behavior.
• Excellent written communication skills and attention to detail.
• Interest in AI behavior, analytics, backend systems, and product workflows.
• A habit of validating assumptions and measuring results.
• Ability to collaborate with both engineers and non-technical domain experts.
• Aspiration to evolve into a full-stack production AI engineer.
• Experience in developing an API, backend service, automation, data pipeline, or internal tool.
• Experience in evaluating LLMs, conversational agents, or other probabilistic systems.
• Knowledge of experimental design, statistics, causal inference, or applied econometrics.
• Experience in testing nondeterministic systems.
• Familiarity with retrieval-augmented generation, agent tools, workflow engines, or model evaluation.
• Ability to differentiate between problems that require deterministic logic and those suited for an LLM.
• Experience in translating domain or policy requirements into software functionality.
• A degree or research background in economics, computer science, statistics, engineering, or another quantitative discipline is preferred.
• Graduate training with a focus on empirical research and significant programming is a plus.
• Experience with TypeScript or a modern frontend framework is a plus.
• Familiarity with cloud platforms, Docker, CI/CD, or infrastructure as code is a plus.
• Experience with experimentation systems, analytics platforms, or business intelligence tools is a plus.
• Experience in lending, fintech, healthcare, or another regulated environment is a plus.
• Experience with customer support or contact center systems is a plus.
• A PhD is welcome but not mandatory.
• Candidates must verify their identity and eligibility to work in the United States.
• Figure will not sponsor work visas for this position.
• 25% annual bonus target, distributed quarterly.
• Company equity in the form of RSUs.
• Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance, with 100% employer-paid premiums for employees and their dependents on select plans.
• Company HSA, FSA, Dependent Care FSA, 401(k), and commuter benefits.
• Employer-paid life and disability insurance.
• 11 observed holidays and a PTO plan.
• Up to 12 weeks of paid family leave.
• Continuing education reimbursement.
