AI Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with senior engineers and the architecture team to define the technical direction for AI-enabled systems.

• Engage in design reviews for AI-related features and implement the provided feedback.

• Develop production-quality Python services, pipelines, and integrations that leverage LLMs and retrieval for internal and product-related challenges.

• Incorporate LLM APIs into existing systems while adhering to guidance on model selection, cost considerations, and failure management.

• Ensure that AI functionalities comply with schema-per-tenant and PHI-boundary patterns within a multi-tenant framework.

• Work alongside the data and analytics team to embed retrieval- and LLM-based features into the lakehouse and analytics layers.

• Contribute to the creation of prompt libraries, evaluation frameworks, reference implementations, and reusable components.

• Assist in assessing emerging AI tools and offer insights on build-versus-buy evaluations.

• Develop AI solutions that meet HIPAA, SOC 2, and NIST standards, covering areas such as PHI handling, data residency, audit logging, BAA coverage, prompt-injection defenses, DLP, model access governance, and secrets management.

• Keep documentation updated regarding AI systems, data flows, and risk assessments for audit and compliance purposes.

• Collaborate with teams across engineering, product, customer success, security, data, and operations to identify automation possibilities and contribute to the AI roadmap.

• Take part in operational quality and on-call rotations, including incident response, post-incident reviews, observability, and feedback loops.

• Monitor cost, quality, and adoption metrics for production AI systems, reporting results to management, the architecture team, and team leads.

• Implement best practices for enterprise AI integration and share insights with colleagues.

⛳️ Requirements

• 3–5 years of experience in software engineering, including a minimum of one year working with AI- or ML-driven systems, with contributions to at least one production LLM-backed system.

• Proficiency in programmatic LLM orchestration, evaluation frameworks, and agent and tool-utilizing systems, including experience in securely connecting enterprise APIs to agentic systems.

• Strong Python programming skills for developing production services, data pipelines, and integration tasks.

• Experience in creating retrieval-augmented systems, with knowledge of enterprise data architectures like Databricks and Azure/AWS.

• Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.

• Familiarity with CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, and MLOps methodologies for AI/ML systems.

• Experience utilizing generative AI tools like Claude and Copilot to enhance productivity and achieve high-quality results.

• Production experience in a regulated industry, with practical knowledge of HIPAA, SOC 2, or NIST, and awareness of multi-tenant SaaS data isolation and identity/access patterns for B2B platforms (preferred).

• A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Science, or a related discipline.
