Advanced Practice Provider, Virtual Critical Care – PRN

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Oversee the care of medical and surgical ICU patients while exercising full professional licensure.

• Gather medical histories and conduct physical examinations.

• Document clinical findings and create timely care plans, which include prescribing medications and ordering necessary tests/procedures.

• Evaluate, diagnose, and modify treatment and management plans according to age, acuity, and clinical conditions.

• Order, conduct, and analyze diagnostic studies, as well as prescribe both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic therapies and interventions.

• Manage patient conditions utilizing clinical indicators, evidence-based practices, cost-effectiveness, and risk/benefit evaluations.

• Provide health promotion, disease prevention, management counseling, and education for patients and their families.

• Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to manage patients within the scope of practice; refer or consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals as needed.

• Recognize and escalate the need for urgent or specialized patient care when appropriate.

• Ensure accurate, complete, concise, and prompt electronic medical record documentation.

• Submit professional services in line with compliant coding and billing standards.

• Facilitate coordinated care and communication among healthcare team members and health/community organizations.

• Execute office or hospital procedures in alignment with specialty practice, competency, and granted privileges.

• Engage in quality, safety, peer review, and performance improvement activities, including meetings, committees, and workgroups.

• Involve in the education and onboarding of new team members, students, and healthcare professionals.

• Continuously develop and maintain clinical and professional expertise.

• Meet productivity, access, patient interaction time, and quality metrics to ensure safe and timely patient care.

• Provide tele-critical care services from home using two-way audio-video communication, bedside waveform monitors, and an integrated electronic medical record system.

• Offer coverage for Wisconsin units within a 24/7 shift-based virtual critical care program serving 18 facilities across Illinois and Wisconsin.

• Work 5-hour and 8-hour shifts, including evenings, overnight coverage, weekends, and holidays; shifts are rotated evenly among staff.

• Attend and contribute to practice meetings, policy/procedure formulation, and quality improvement efforts.

⛳️ Requirements

• Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) must possess Acute Care Board Certification.

• Must be a Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) with at least three years of recent critical care experience as an NP or PA.

• Candidates must currently be employed in a critical care setting.

• Wisconsin and Illinois licensure is required.

• Hold an active RN license and APRN/APRN-FPA/APNP or equivalent APRN license(s) in the practice states.

• Maintain active national board certification in the relevant clinical practice area and populations served.

• Active DEA registration is required prior to hiring.

• For Illinois practice: an active Illinois Controlled Substance License is required before hiring.

• Hold active BLS and/or ACLS, PALS, NRP certifications as required by clinical practice before or within six months of hiring.

• A Master’s Degree in Nursing is required.

• Demonstrated high-level clinical proficiency and excellent decision-making capability.

• Proven ability to work autonomously and as an effective part of a healthcare team.

• Ability to adapt to advancing technology and proficiency with electronic medical records.

• Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate and build relationships effectively.

• Demonstrated organizational skills and effective prioritization abilities.

• Must be capable of standing, walking, bending, stooping, and twisting continuously throughout the workday.

• Must possess functional speech, vision, touch, and hearing capabilities.

• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs from the floor to waist level, lift up to 20 lbs overhead, carry up to 40 lbs a reasonable distance, and operate all necessary job-related equipment.
