Academy Counselor

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.

📋 Description

• Assist both new and returning Academy students in grades 6–12 with their academic, college-career, and social-emotional growth.

• Adapt to the unique circumstances of a diverse student body while ensuring ethical reviews and documentation of student requirements on official transcripts.

• Evaluate incoming student transcripts, including those from international institutions, and aid in the creation of course schedules upon admission.

• Ensure students fulfill academic criteria and requirements for grade-level advancement, graduation, and college admission.

• Track student pacing and progress in alignment with Laurel Springs policies and expectations.

• Lead grade-level seminar courses and offer constructive feedback on assignments.

• Provide consistent, personalized support toward students’ post-secondary aspirations, including career exploration, college list development, and pathway opportunities.

• Draft letters of recommendation for student applications.

• Conduct live and recorded webinars, events, and activities for the Counseling Department.

• Organize and facilitate Academy-specific counseling opportunities, such as peer mentoring, seminar workshops, middle school gatherings, drop-in support, and admissions case studies.

• Communicate with students, parents, teachers, staff, and administrators through email, phone, video conferencing, and other communication tools.

• Collaborate with middle and high school faculty and staff to provide individual student support and comprehensive programming.

• Hold frequent one-on-one meetings to address students’ academic, social/emotional, and college/career needs.

• Assist with student enrollment through virtual open houses, enrollment/re-enrollment discussions, and admissions or marketing events.

• Contribute to newsletters and other school communications.

• Engage professionally in school-wide meetings, events, communications, and activities, both online and in person, including evening virtual events.

• Participate in ongoing professional development, self-assessment, and continuous improvement.

• Maintain confidentiality regarding students, families, staff, management, and operations.

• Perform additional counseling-related responsibilities as assigned.


⛳️ Requirements

• Master’s degree or higher in School Counseling.

• Active certification in School Counseling.

• Dedication to ongoing compliance with state and local regulations concerning background checks and credentials.

• Over 5 years of experience in counseling or working in a school environment specifically supporting high school students.

• Prior experience with middle school students is preferred.

• Extensive experience guiding students through the college application process.

• Familiarity with developing student schedules and academic plans.

• Strong skills in word processing, productivity, communication, and educational technology tools.

• Proficiency in G-Suite, Learning Management Systems, and Student Information Systems is strongly preferred.

• Strong analytical, interpretive, evaluative, constructive thinking, and organizational skills.

• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication abilities.

• Reliable and high-quality internet access.

• A quiet workspace that allows full presence and availability during regular work hours and occasional evening events.

• Flexibility in schedule to accommodate international students or those needing communication outside standard office hours.

• Willingness to travel for in-person events, meetings, and training opportunities at least once or twice annually.
