This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia, +1 more state.
• Provide guidance, support, and information to students regarding academic choices and their progression through programs.
• Engage with students remotely through various channels including email, phone, chat, webinars, videos, social media, and more.
• Establish and nurture relationships with prospective, current, and returning students while representing the university effectively.
• Address inquiries related to academic advising, programs, policies, campus navigation, and student concerns.
• Conduct outreach to students and offer advice on subsequent steps in their academic journey.
• Document all interactions with students in a clear and organized manner.
• Review requests for degree plan changes and provide counsel on credit implications, completion timelines, and student planning.
• Implement suitable academic advising techniques, including inquisitive, appreciative, developmental, and prescriptive strategies.
• Track student behavioral trends and support targeted outreach initiatives and process modifications.
• Maintain expertise in advising various student populations and programs.
• Inspire and assist students in achieving successful completion of their programs.
• Meet established service-level agreements and departmental service expectations.
• Evaluate processes and policies, recommending enhancements where necessary.
• Engage in professional development opportunities, committees, task forces, university organizations, and industry groups such as NACADA.
• Liaise with university departments on behalf of students.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• A Bachelor's degree conferred from an accredited institution.
• Exceptional oral and written communication abilities.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish is highly preferred.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to influence, persuade, elicit, and listen effectively.
• Familiarity with student development theories.
• Excellent customer service and student service skills.
• Capability to provide effective advice in ambiguous and unstructured environments.
• Proficiency in managing multiple tasks under tight deadlines with minimal oversight.
• Rational and objective decision-making skills.
• Ability to navigate various systems and adapt to ongoing technological changes.

• At least one year of professional office experience, preferably in a collegiate or academic advising context.
• Knowledge of undergraduate and graduate student development theories.
• Understanding of academic advising theories and best practices.
• Experience in influencing, informing, and persuading students on complex academic issues is a plus.
• Experience working with students from diverse cultural, socioeconomic, and academic backgrounds is desirable.
• Availability to work Monday–Thursday from 11:30am to 8:00pm EST and Friday from 8:00am to 4:30pm EST.
