Abuse Hotline Counselor – Part-Time

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kentucky.

📋 Description

• Offer telephone assistance to individuals reporting suspected neglect, abuse, and/or exploitation involving both children and adults in Kentucky.

• Prepare and submit reports through the State Web Portal.

• Monitor the circumstances of callers by conducting follow-ups with State Child and Adult Protective Services personnel.

• Conduct interviews with clients to collect information for accepting Abuse Line intake referrals.

• Accurately document and maintain records of telephone interventions.

• Assess callers for potential suicide/homicide risks and connect eligible callers to Crisis Intervention Counselors.

• Participate in staff meetings and mandatory ongoing training sessions.

• Complete the required Abuse Line training mandated by State Child and Adult Protective Services.

• Offer educational information and referrals to resources.

• Uphold confidentiality regarding abuse line reports.

• Exhibit a professional demeanor with both internal and external clients.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a resident of the Greater Louisville area.

• Completion of sixty hours of undergraduate coursework, or currently enrolled as an undergraduate student, in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Education, Human Services, Business, or a similar field.

• Preferred minimum of six months experience in social services or mental health services.

• An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered in lieu of the 60 hours of undergraduate coursework.

• Must be willing and able to work third-shift and/or during weekends and holidays.

• Capability to interview clients and gather information for Abuse Line intake referrals.

• Proficient in completing and filing reports via the State Web Portal.

• Ability to screen for suicide and homicide risks.

• Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and adhering to ethical conduct standards.
