This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Oversee a claims department consisting of claims supervisors, specialists, assistants, and other personnel.
• Directly report to the Vice President of Claims.
• Monitor both the quantity and quality of the claims department's output.
• Provide coaching, counseling, mentoring, and performance feedback to claims supervisors and staff.
• Ensure departmental work product complies with Labor Code provisions as well as company policies and regulations.
• Conduct performance evaluations and implement corrective actions when necessary.
• Hold monetary approval authority up to the designated level.
• Collaborate with client representatives to ensure adherence to contractual provisions and promptly address client/customer issues.
• Support supervisors with customer and personnel matters, keeping the Vice President of Claims updated on corrective measures.
• Identify and cultivate at least one supervisor as a backup claim manager.
• Represent the company at industry events when required.
• Foster teamwork and collaboration among claims personnel and other departments.
• Analyze productivity and compliance trends, making necessary procedural adjustments to enhance productivity and outcomes.
• Manage departmental operating expenses within the allocated budget.
• Perform additional responsibilities as assigned by the Vice President of Claims.
• Supervise 3 to 7 subordinate supervisors overseeing 7 to 10 employees, while also directly managing one non-supervisory employee.
• Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university; or one to two years of relevant experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Minimum of eight years of progressive technical claim experience.
• High level of judgment and discretion.
• Capability to provide comprehensive guidance on complex claim cases.
• Proficiency in negotiating settlements effectively.
• Familiarity with the Labor Code of the State of California as it relates to workers' compensation claims.
• Experience in managing claims supervisors, specialists, assistants, and other claims personnel.
• Ability to interview, hire, train, plan, assign, and direct work effectively.
• Competence in evaluating performance, rewarding and disciplining staff, addressing complaints, and resolving issues.
• Ability to develop project plans, coordinate initiatives, communicate changes and progress, and deliver projects on time and within budget.
• Understanding of business implications, profitability, market dynamics, competition, and strategic objectives.
• Skills in change management, including planning for implementation, communicating changes, fostering commitment, and monitoring outcomes.
