Wildland Fire Support Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Assist in the execution and supervision of Army Regulation 200-series wildland-fire guidance and associated instructions.

• Evaluate IWFMP determination workflows, which include waivers, exemptions, and approval procedures.

• Facilitate the dissemination of Army wildland-fire guidance to commands and installations.

• Conduct research and prepare responses to technical and policy inquiries from Army commands and components.

• Aid in the adoption of wildland-fire tools, systems, and technologies.

• Convert fire-management and interagency terminology into practical materials.

• Create communication products for a diverse audience involved in wildland fire management.

• Contribute to the development and standardization of the GS-0456 Wildland Fire Management occupational series.

• Assist in establishing occupational medical and fitness standards for Army wildland-fire personnel.

• Foster relationships with federal, state, tribal, and territorial wildland-fire partners.

• Organize Army participation in TREX and similar interagency training events.

• Coordinate activities across Active Army, Army National Guard, and Army Reserve wildland-fire programs.

• Aid in the formulation and justification of a formal Wildland Fire Program of Record.

• Prepare briefings, information papers, and senior-leader products; ensure work is accurate and meets Army quality standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in fire ecology, fire science, forestry, rangeland science, wildlife/natural resource management, environmental science, emergency management, or a closely related field; or equivalent wildland-fire program experience.

• 7–10 years of professional experience in wildland fire, fuels/prescribed fire, or fire-program management, including work on federal, military, state, or interagency lands.

• Understanding of federal wildland-fire policy, NWCG or interagency operating standards, and fire ecology as it pertains to land management.

• Familiarity with military or federal installation natural-resource programs and IWFMPs and/or INRMPs.

• Knowledge of environmental and wildland-fire authorities that apply to DoD lands, including Sikes Act context, ESA intersections with prescribed fire, and the Reciprocal Fire Protection Act/mutual aid.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; capacity to produce policy-quality documents and present across organizational levels.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

• Eligibility to obtain a Secret clearance.

• Willingness to travel as necessary.

• Desired: Experience with direct Army, Army National Guard, USMC, USAF, USFS, BLM, FWS, NPS, or state forestry wildland-fire programs.

• Desired: Experience in writing, reviewing, or implementing IWFMPs or equivalent fire-management plans.

• Desired: NWCG qualifications, particularly RXB2, RXB3, FIRB, ICT4, or ENGB.

• Desired: Experience related to GS-0456, IFPM, IQCS/IQS, medical/fitness standards, or wildland-fire workforce policy.

• Desired: Experience in coordinating TREX, prescribed-fire training, interagency agreements, or mutual aid.

• Desired: Experience in supporting program-of-record, POM/budget, or manpower documentation.

• Desired: Familiarity with Army components and installation training-land management.

• Desired: Experience using Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, Power BI, Visio, and other related collaboration tools.
