VistA MUMPS Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Modify and enhance VistA/MUMPS applications to remove or replace SSN usage within business processes, user interfaces, reports, audit trails, and related functionalities.

• Implement approved strategies for transitioning from SSN-based processes to enterprise identifiers.

• Analyze VistA routines, data structures, workflows, and application dependencies.

• Identify affected functionalities, troubleshoot defects, and create secure, maintainable code that aligns with VA and project standards.

• Develop and execute unit tests.

• Support functional, integration, regression, User Acceptance Testing, deployment validation, and production-readiness activities.

• Collaborate with Quality Assurance personnel to investigate defects, implement fixes, verify resolutions, and assist with post-release troubleshooting.

• Adhere to secure software development and sensitive data handling practices for PII and PHI.

• Uphold VA privacy, security, and NIST control requirements.

• Produce technical documentation detailing application modifications and implementation considerations.

• Work together with Lead Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, QA personnel, cybersecurity teams, and Government stakeholders in an Agile environment.

• Participate in Sprint Planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.

• Communicate estimates, technical challenges, dependencies, and risks.

• Undertake additional tasks and responsibilities as necessary to support team objectives.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.

• Over 5 years of professional experience in VistA/MUMPS development.

• Strong practical experience in programming within VistA using MUMPS/M and InterSystems Caché, GT.M, or a similar M-based platform.

• Experience in modifying or supporting VistA packages, modules, data structures, or other healthcare information systems.

• Proficient in analyzing existing routines, workflows, and application dependencies.

• Competent in software debugging and troubleshooting.

• Familiar with source control and peer code reviews.

• Experienced in unit and integration testing.

• Knowledgeable in Agile software development practices.

• Understanding of secure software development practices.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VistA environments, particularly ADT, PCE, AICS, Record Tracking, VistA Audit Solutions, or related VistA packages.

• Familiarity with PII/PHI protection, healthcare data privacy regulations, NIST security controls, HIPAA, FISMA, or VA security requirements.

• Experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams supporting federal healthcare modernization, application remediation, or complex enterprise healthcare environments.

• Must reside within the continental United States.

• U.S. Citizenship is required.

• Must successfully pass a background check.

• Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including necessary fingerprinting, when required.
