This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Modify and improve VistA/MUMPS applications to eliminate or substitute SSN usage within business processes, user interfaces, reports, audit trails, and associated functionalities.
• Implement sanctioned strategies for transitioning to enterprise identifiers.
• Analyze current VistA routines, data structures, workflows, and application dependencies.
• Troubleshoot defects and develop secure, maintainable code that aligns with VA and project development standards.
• Create and execute unit tests.
• Assist with functional, integration, regression, User Acceptance Testing, deployment validation, and readiness for production activities.
• Collaborate with Quality Assurance personnel to investigate defects, implement solutions, verify resolutions, and support post-release troubleshooting and application stability.
• Adhere to secure software development and sensitive data handling practices when dealing with PII and PHI.
• Support relevant VA privacy, security, and NIST control requirements.
• Generate technical documentation outlining application modifications and implementation considerations.
• Work alongside Lead Developers, Business Analysts, Product Owners, QA personnel, cybersecurity teams, and other stakeholders in an Agile setting.
• Engage in Sprint Planning, backlog refinement, daily stand-ups, Sprint Reviews, and Retrospectives.
• Communicate estimates, technical challenges, dependencies, and risks.
• Take on additional tasks and responsibilities as necessary to support team goals and project success.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Software Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent experience.
• Over 5 years of professional experience in VistA/MUMPS development.
• Strong practical experience programming within VistA using MUMPS/M and InterSystems Caché, GT.M, or a similar M-based platform.
• Experience in modifying or supporting VistA packages, modules, data structures, or other healthcare information systems.
• Experience in analyzing existing routines, workflows, and application dependencies.
• Proficiency in software debugging and troubleshooting.
• Familiarity with source control, peer code review, unit and integration testing, and Agile software development methodologies.
• Understanding of secure software development practices.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Experience supporting Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) VistA environments, particularly ADT, PCE, AICS, Record Tracking, VistA Audit Solutions, or related VistA packages.
• Knowledge of PII/PHI protection, healthcare data privacy regulations, NIST security controls, HIPAA, FISMA, or VA security requirements.
• Experience working within Agile/Scrum development teams focused on federal healthcare modernization, application remediation, or complex enterprise healthcare environments.
• U.S. Citizenship is mandatory.
• Must successfully complete a background check.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Government/Public Trust clearance, including required fingerprinting, when necessary.
• Must reside within the continental United States.
