Vice President – Regional Advocacy

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +4 more states.

📋 Description

• Create and implement a comprehensive advocacy strategy across multiple states to secure legislative victories, defend policies, and engage with state and regulatory entities.

• Coordinate state teams with federal objectives and manage federal, state, and local campaigns to ensure a unified national effect.

• Direct rapid response initiatives to address emerging legislative challenges or opportunities.

• Provide consistent updates to executive leadership regarding the impact of regional advocacy efforts.

• Supervise a regional advocacy team comprising over 60 members across roughly 25 states.

• Hold ultimate responsibility and accountability for recruitment within the region.

• Develop, strategize, and oversee regional and state financial plans.

• Ensure that state advocacy positions are consistent with organizational policies.

• Promote collaboration, trust, accountability, inclusion, and innovation within the team.

• Offer coaching, professional growth opportunities, and performance management.

• Monitor legislative progress, campaign performance metrics, and team effectiveness.

• Ensure adherence to lobbying regulations and internal policies.

• Collaborate with grassroots teams to broaden and activate volunteer networks.

• Assist with volunteer training, recognition programs, and platforms for patient storytelling.

• Lead successful volunteer fundraising initiatives.

• Represent the organization in coalitions, conferences, and public discussions.

• Build relationships with significant donors, foundations, and corporate partners.

• Advocate for advocacy priorities during donor meetings, events, and communications.

• Align advocacy achievements with fundraising strategies and impact assessments.

• Participate in and provide organizational leadership through the Senior Leadership Team.

• Engage in cross-functional planning for ACS CAN, its Board, and high-level organizational messaging.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in public policy, political science, law, or a related field.

• Advanced degrees are preferred.

• At least 15 years of experience in government relations, advocacy, or public affairs.

• Minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership position.

• Demonstrated success in leading multi-state legislative campaigns.

• Experience managing large teams distributed across various geographic locations.

• Background in volunteer engagement and donor relations within a mission-oriented organization.

• Familiarity with high-level stakeholder engagement across advocacy and other organizations.

• Extensive knowledge of state legislative processes and healthcare policy.

• Strong experience working collaboratively with state health policymakers and advocacy leaders.

• Willingness to travel frequently across regions.

• Experience in grassroots organizing and community involvement.

• Proficiency in budget management and overseeing external vendors.

• Ability to navigate politically sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.

• Outstanding strategic thinking, communication, and relationship-building capabilities.

• Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in advocacy and leadership.

• Capability to travel by car, train, or plane as necessary.
