This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Design and develop visual effects for games, encompassing combat, abilities, environments, ambient, and user interface feedback effects.
• Construct and manage VFX using Unreal Engine 5 with Niagara.
• Implement particle effects, destruction simulations, fluid dynamics, and other physics-based effects.
• Create procedural VFX solutions to enhance iteration speed and uniformity.
• Design and adjust post-process effects such as bloom, distortion, and screen-space effects.
• Generate supporting textures, materials, shaders, and 3D models for VFX assets.
• Integrate VFX with gameplay logic through Blueprints, with C++ programming support as necessary.
• Collaborate with Designers, Animators, Art Directors, 3D Artists, and other teams.
• Interpret briefs and art direction to create effects that align with each project's visual style and tone.
• Contribute to the development of style guides and reference boards.
• Revise effects based on feedback received.
• Assist in defining and enhancing VFX workflows and pipelines.
• Work on multiple game titles across various platforms concurrently.
• Strong portfolio showcasing particle and VFX work for real-time gaming.
• Comprehensive understanding of particle systems, timing, color, and motion dynamics.
• Experience in creating and implementing VFX directly in Unreal Engine 5 utilizing Niagara.
• Solid knowledge of shaders and materials for VFX, including proficiency with Unreal Material Editor / Shader Graph.
• Excellent understanding of real-time VFX performance and optimization, including draw calls, overdraw, texture and LOD budgets, as well as in-engine profiling tools.
• Experience with procedural VFX and simulation workflows, including destruction and fluid effects.
• Proficiency in industry-standard 2D/3D tools such as Photoshop, Affinity Photo, or Blender.
• Keen eye for detail and consistency across both stylized and realistic visual aesthetics.
• Experience integrating VFX with gameplay through Blueprints.
• Understanding of vector mathematics and fundamental art principles, including lighting, composition, and color theory.
• Experience in creating supporting 3D models for VFX-related assets.
• Familiarity with procedural/simulation tools like Houdini or Embergen.
• Background in traditional art fundamentals.
• Interest in merging Art and Technical Art.
• Willingness to learn German.
• Self-motivated, reliable, and proactive individual.
• Collaborative team player who enjoys problem-solving collectively.
• Capable of gathering, analyzing, and responding to team feedback, and open to constructive criticism.
• Eager to learn and explore new tools, styles, and techniques.
• Proficient in English communication, both verbal and written.
