Underwriting Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee daily underwriting workflows while monitoring case stages, deadlines, and team performance.

• Coordinate priorities and manage urgent, time-sensitive cases.

• Act as an escalation point and subject matter expert for Underwriters.

• Identify stalled or aging cases, investigate any delays, and facilitate issue resolution.

• Address case-specific inquiries and communicate physician guidance to Underwriters.

• Collaborate with Operations, Records, Peer-to-Peer, Sales, Quality Assurance/Editing, attorneys, clients, and other stakeholders.

• Analyze feedback for recurring issues and leverage insights for coaching and process enhancements.

• Provide leadership, coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to assigned Underwriters.

• Conduct regular one-on-one meetings to foster development.

• Train and onboard new Underwriters regarding workflows, processes, expectations, and quality standards.

• Manage employee performance, including reviews, performance improvement plans, and escalations to the Director of Underwriting and HR.

• Assess team capacity and identify staffing or resource requirements.

• Oversee the performance of independent contractors, ensuring deliverables, quality, and contractual obligations are met.

• Reinforce underwriting processes, case-flow standards, service expectations, and procedures.

• Identify workflow bottlenecks and opportunities to enhance efficiency and case movement.

• Communicate process changes, operational updates, priorities, and expectations effectively.

• Engage in department and cross-functional forums to promote underwriting process improvements.

• Provide daily leadership and operational oversight instead of consistently writing life care plans.

• Advanced understanding of life care planning principles, practices, medical terminology, and report-development processes.

• Capability to offer sound guidance on intricate or unclear life care planning cases.

• Strong critical-thinking, judgment, and problem-solving abilities.

• Proven leadership skills in people management, including coaching, mentoring, training, feedback, and performance management.

• Excellent organizational, prioritization, and time-management skills.

• Ability to juggle competing priorities, respond to urgent needs, and oversee multiple cases and team members.

• Exceptional interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

• Capacity to identify trends and translate observations into coaching or process improvements.

• Technical proficiency with email, case-management systems, and standard business applications.

• Associate degree or higher in nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy, rehabilitation, healthcare, or a related field; or an equivalent combination of relevant healthcare education and experience.

• Current Life Care Planning certification is mandatory.

• A minimum of three years of professional experience in Life Care Planning is required.

• Previous formal supervisory experience is preferred.

• Must sustain a remote work environment with reliable internet access, effective virtual participation, confidentiality, and safeguarding of company and client information.
