Trial Attorney – Insurance Defense

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Manage litigation and various legal tasks in alignment with Law Department protocols.

• Take ownership of cases and engage in litigation activities.

• Conduct meetings with clients.

• Prepare and summarize reports for legal proceedings.

• Formulate trial strategies and develop cases.

• Attend trials, mediations, depositions, and hearings.

• Collaborate with fellow attorneys and utilize support staff while retaining ownership of case files.

• Strategize on trial and case development throughout the litigation process.

⛳️ Requirements

• 0-10+ years of experience in litigation.

• Preferred experience in insurance defense, medical malpractice, personal injury, or workers compensation; Assistant Public Defender or District Attorney experience may also be considered.

• Jury trial experience is desirable, but not mandatory.

• Knowledge of local and state discovery rules, trial procedures, and relevant substantive law according to experience level.

• Experience in trial, mediation, and depositions.

• File ownership is essential.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency in managing cases in electronic formats.

• Familiarity with a Case Management system.

• Understanding of a Document Storage system.

• J.D. from an A.B.A. Accredited Law School with strong academic credentials.

• Active law license to practice in California.

• Good standing membership with the State Bar of California.

• Must be eligible to work lawfully in the U.S. immediately; State Farm will not sponsor applicants for U.S. work opportunities.

• Must discontinue all outside practice and litigation involvement prior to joining State Farm, except for authorized and pro bono work.

• Capability to travel via personal or commercial means for job-related activities.

• Flexibility to work irregular hours may be required.
