Traveling Construction Materials Technician IV

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.

📋 Description

• Conduct field testing, observation, and inspection of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, steel, and various construction materials.

• Relay information regarding construction sites, projects, testing, observations, and inspections to project managers, engineering technicians, clients, and contractors.

• Transport material samples along with identifying documentation to laboratories for further testing and analysis.

• Prepare and submit both written and digital reports, as well as daily data transmittals to the Terracon Project Manager.

• Conduct basic data analysis to ensure accuracy.

• Maintain and clean equipment, vehicles, work areas, and ensure proper calibration of equipment.

• Carry out advanced fieldwork and assist with project management tasks.

• Train junior technicians and potentially oversee other engineering technicians.

• Aid in the development of testing and inspection service scopes.

• Plan, schedule, and dispatch technicians to various project sites.

• Coordinate pre-dispatch activities with project, department, and office managers.

• Monitor contractor site data and project status using CMELMS.

• Communicate project timelines, client requirements, and project status updates to clients.

• Adhere to safety and quality standards across all projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• At least 5–10 years of relevant experience or equivalent training and related experience.

• Proficiency in using laptop computers, as well as Microsoft Word and Excel.

• Willingness to travel up to 100% and for extended periods without the option to return home.

• Flexibility to work varying schedules, including overtime, weekends, and extended shifts.

• A valid driver’s license with an acceptable violation history may be necessary.

• ACI certification in one or more of the following: Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I; Concrete Strength Testing Technician.

• Certification in radiation safety and operation of Nuclear Density Gauge.

• AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI), or ASNT Level II for structural steel and/or nondestructive testing services.

• Relevant certification for facilities services or project requirements, such as Registered Roofing Observer (RRO).

• Capability to perform field testing, observations, inspections, laboratory testing, data analysis, documentation, and equipment calibration.

• Ability to follow safety protocols, conduct pre-task planning, identify hazards, and mitigate risks.

• Competence to work independently with minimal supervision and exercise sound judgment.

• Skill in collaborating effectively across teams and geographic locations.

• Adaptability to changing project environments and job site conditions.
