Technology Director – Search and Recommendations

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the technical strategy, roadmap, architecture, and delivery for The Home Depot’s .com and Mobile App products.

• Collaborate with functional and technical leaders to assess and plan capabilities for both short- and long-term business requirements.

• Formulate and implement strategic plans that align with key objectives while ensuring timeliness and fiscal responsibility.

• Foster strategic alignment and partnerships with both functional and technical peers and leaders.

• Analyze research, market insights, third-party vendors, industry innovations, and technology platforms to guide strategy development.

• Build and maintain strategic vendor relationships, ensuring alignment with enterprise objectives.

• Utilize technical and domain expertise to provide thought leadership and translate vision into actionable steps.

• Define and convey value propositions, success metrics, and expected outcomes.

• Ensure compliance with quality and change control standards.

• Create and implement sustainable, repeatable, and reliable processes while overseeing continuous improvement initiatives.

• Strive for operational excellence by meeting operational metrics and prioritizing external customer needs.

• Provide leadership, mentoring, and coaching to team members.

• Manage and direct the strategic vision for staff.

• Attract, develop, retain, and motivate top talent.

• Conduct annual and mid-year performance reviews, evaluate development plans, and offer performance feedback.

• Report typically to a Sr. Director or Vice President.

• Travel overnight 5% to 20% of the time.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be at least eighteen years of age.

• Must have legal authorization to work in the United States.

• Possess end-to-end ownership of Search, Personalization & Recommendations platforms.

• Experience in leading high-traffic e-commerce systems that encompass relevance and ranking, query comprehension, personalization logic, and large-scale experimentation.

• Ability to execute business-aligned technical strategy and roadmap.

• Familiarity with A/B testing, incrementality measurement, and multi-armed bandits methodologies.

• Experience in managing ML-powered ranking and recommendation systems, behavioral data pipelines, real-time inference, feature stores, latency optimization, and resilience protocols.

• Proven track record in building and scaling senior engineering teams.

• Knowledgeable in CI/CD, trunk-based development, test automation, DevOps, and SRE practices.

• Experience collaborating with VP+ leaders across Product, UX, Data Science, Marketing, Finance, Legal, Risk, and InfoSec.

• Experience managing platform budgets and vendor strategy.

• Understanding of data privacy, security, compliance, responsible experimentation, and ML governance.

• Demonstrated leadership experience at a Sr. Manager level or above within a fast-paced, multi-division national organization.

• Proven ability to define, communicate, and drive value propositions, success metrics, and outcomes.

• Experience in shaping, aligning, and guiding the execution of strategic direction for a domain or significant portfolio segment.

• Skillful in communicating, building influence, and developing relationships with functional and technical leaders as well as vendor partners.

• Experience in selecting and managing strategic vendor relationships or serving as the primary contact for strategic partnerships.

• Experience in managing and developing direct reports with their own areas of responsibility.

• In-depth market and industry knowledge relevant to a particular portfolio segment or domain.

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent qualification in a related field of study.

• A minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience.
