Technical Specialist – Advanced Chassis Structural Design, Manufacturing Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.

📋 Description

• Oversee the development and implementation of an internal design and manufacturing process for suspension structural components, including stampings, castings, and forgings.

• Create and uphold internal engineering foundation documents, which encompass design guides, design standards, requirements, and interface agreements.

• Develop and administer Process FMEAs, Control Plans, Safe Launch Control Plans, and sub-component BOMs.

• Facilitate Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly feasibility assessments prior to tool initiation.

• Spearhead in-house manufacturing process simulations for stamping formability, casting solidification, and forging flow.

• Manage the OK-to-tool procedure with Build-to-Print suppliers, including the procurement of steel, rough-cut, and final approvals.

• Execute test-facility correlation studies between Ford and supplier locations.

• Formulate component and assembly GD&T and approve program prints.

• Assist in the prototype development for Build-to-Print components.

• Supervise data collection and capability analysis for Significant/Critical Characteristics, including Ppk calculations.

• Lead process optimization trials and Design of Experiments.

• Create APQP plans, conduct OK-to-Build and OK-to-Ship reviews, and manage Gauge R&R trials.

• Direct root cause analysis and problem-solving initiatives using 8D and JIRA throughout launch, testing, and production phases.

• Occasionally travel to assembly plants and global chassis engineering centers to facilitate process development, resolve issues, and provide engineer training.


⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in chassis structural design and engineering.

• Extensive experience in component engineering design and release for suspension structural components (stampings, castings, forgings), particularly during the launch phase.

• Profound knowledge of Build-to-Print Supplier (BTPS) deliverables and a proven record of executing manufacturing, tooling feasibility, and PPAP requirements internally.

• Significant experience in creating and managing DFMEA, PFMEA, SCCAF, Control Plans, and drawings with advanced GD&T.

• Familiarity with CAE tools, manufacturing simulation software, and process optimization techniques (DOE).

• Strong analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities to lead root cause analysis for intricate manufacturing and dimensional challenges.

• Knowledge of GPDS deliverables and fundamental Ford engineering tools, including Teamcenter, WERS, and buck environments.

• Capability to manage complex tasks and demanding situations under tight deadlines.

• Experience in communicating effectively with senior leadership, design and release teams, manufacturing, and tooling suppliers.

• Strong planning, organizational, and project management skills with the ability to follow up effectively to achieve multiple objectives.

• Ability to forge relationships with cross-functional teams.

• Must possess legal authorization to work in the United States.
