This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Execute engineering tasks related to snow and ice, polar logistics, and data gathering.
• Offer technical assistance to the Government in executing research and development initiatives for the Engineering Resources Branch (ERB).
• Contribute technical insights and support to ERB in formulating design, performance, and evaluation criteria for Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles designed for polar snow and ice runways.
• Create detailed guidance and decision-support documents for personnel under the U.S. Antarctic Program responsible for the operation and maintenance of snow and ice runways and a long-duration balloon launch pad.
• Develop and/or revise UFC documents relevant to snow and ice runways and snow skiways.
• Assess in-situ runway strength measurement tools for snow and white ice runways and their applicability in determining operational limits for various aircraft types.
• Ensure consistent and timely attendance.
• Undertake additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Work in various environments, including remote locations and laboratories, particularly in cold regions such as Antarctica, Greenland, and Alaska.
• Relevant experience in snow and ice engineering, polar logistics, or associated technical research.
• Proficiency in data gathering, analysis, laboratory or field work, and preparing technical reports.
• Capability to apply technical judgment and troubleshoot laboratory or field instrumentation and equipment issues.
• Must acquire and maintain necessary security clearances and/or background checks.
• Ability to work autonomously while coordinating with researchers and technical personnel.
• Experience in polar or cold-region research and field operations.
• Background in developing technical guidance, specifications, or UFC documents.
• Availability for part-time work; may require additional hours as necessary.
• Anticipated travel is less than 40%.
• Must possess or be able to obtain a valid state driver’s license and be insurable under the company’s automobile insurance policy.
