Technical Research Assistant, Student Wage

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Develop datasets by exploring publicly accessible information regarding companies or cities.

• Aid in the organization and storage of extensive datasets.

• Generate documentation for the datasets that are created.

• Extract data from reports, online sources, and additional materials.

• Depending on the role, engage with virtual machines and cloud services.

• Undertake other assigned responsibilities.

• Report directly to faculty at Darden or the Office of Research Services.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must be a current student at UVA.

• Submission of a resume and cover letter is mandatory.

• Both undergraduate and graduate students from UVA are encouraged to apply.

• Candidates may be studying computer science, data science, business, accounting, economics, social sciences, humanities, statistics, math, or other fields with robust programming and computational skills.

• Capability to review various reports, extract information from public databases, and consolidate it into a database.

• Familiarity with large datasets is necessary.

• Proficiency in Python and/or SQL is essential.

• Preference for experience with high-performance computing, including UVA's Rivanna and Ivy computing clusters.

• Previous experience with data intelligence platforms, machine learning, or large language models (LLM) for research is preferred.

• Familiarity with Agentic AI (e.g., Codex) and APIs is a plus.

• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills are required.

• Strong attention to detail is a must.

• Ability to work autonomously while managing several projects simultaneously.

• A willingness to learn on the job is essential.

• The student must physically reside in the United States.

• Hourly compensation of $16.00 for students pursuing a 4-year degree, $22.00 for MA/MS students, and $25.00 for Ph.D. students.
