This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the technical lead in transforming legacy enterprise applications into a scalable, cloud-compatible architecture.
• Establish technical direction, architecture standards, and best engineering practices.
• Facilitate design sessions and conduct architecture reviews.
• Record technical decisions and solutions comprehensively.
• Assist in breaking down monolithic systems into manageable microservices.
• Design and develop backend services and RESTful APIs.
• Provide technical guidance for frontend development and ensure well-defined API contracts.
• Lead the implementation of secure authentication and authorization methods in collaboration with security stakeholders.
• Advocate for CI/CD automation, infrastructure-aware design, and production readiness.
• Balance the reduction of technical debt with project delivery timelines and operational risks.
• Mentor engineers through code reviews, technical coaching, and daily support.
• Collaborate with product, operations, and program stakeholders.
• Identify potential risks and suggest mitigation strategies.
• Guide a small, cross-functional team in transforming legacy systems into a contemporary platform.
• Possess Public Trust Clearance.
• Have 8+ years of professional software development experience.
• Hold at least 3 years in a technical leadership role.
• Exhibit strong alignment with the mission.
• Demonstrate substantial expertise in modern backend development, including Java and enterprise application frameworks.
• Have hands-on experience in designing and delivering microservices and distributed systems.
• Experience in modernizing legacy systems and refactoring complex codebases is essential.
• Possess a deep understanding of RESTful API design and integration patterns.
• Have solid experience with relational databases and data migration concepts.
• Have working knowledge of modern frontend frameworks and UI patterns.
• Experience in implementing secure authentication and authorization, including OAuth2, OIDC, JWT, and RBAC.
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and application observability.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in legacy environments.
• Ability to convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Experience in Agile or iterative delivery environments.
• Comfortable working in regulated, security-sensitive environments.
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
• Bonus: Experience in modernizing systems within government or regulated environments.
