This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the complete architecture, design, and development of enterprise-level applications utilizing Java, PHP, Angular, and REST APIs.
• Supervise and actively participate in microservices-based architectures and cloud-native solutions on platforms such as Microsoft Azure and AWS.
• Propel the development of responsive and user-centric front-end interfaces using Angular and contemporary UI/UX principles.
• Advocate for CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automation methodologies.
• Collaborate with product owners, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to convert business requirements into technical solutions.
• Ensure code quality and security through tools like SonarQube, Bitbucket, IDE integrations, code reviews, and approvals.
• Engage in hands-on development, unit testing, and peer review processes.
• Lead migration initiatives from legacy systems to modern platforms with minimal disruption.
• Provide secure, scalable, high-performance payment processing solutions that adhere to industry standards.
• Promote the use of AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code and GitHub Copilot.
• Identify and automate repetitive engineering tasks, including test generation, code-review triage, documentation, deployment checklists, and ticket triage.
• Manage end-to-end delivery timelines and budgets; monitor delivery health using metrics like velocity, cycle time, and defect-escape rate.
• Utilize JIRA and Confluence for agile project management, documentation, and teamwork.
• Mentor developers and advocate for best practices and professional development.
• Oversee sprint capacity planning and technical sequencing for a team of about 4–8 engineers.
• Balance hands-on coding, dedicating approximately 40–50% of your time, with leadership responsibilities.
• Establish commitments and deadlines, conduct standups, sprint reviews, and retrospectives, and monitor real-time delivery.
• Hold engineers accountable for unmet commitments and uphold engineering standards.
• Escalate ongoing or unresolved accountability concerns to the Director of IT.
• Serve as the primary technical escalation point and represent delivery status and risks to the Director of IT and cross-functional stakeholders.
• Manage the on-call rotation and incident response for production/payment systems, including conducting blameless post-incident reviews and ensuring follow-through on remediation.
• Ensure coverage and continuity planning, document tribal knowledge, and facilitate cross-training within the team.
• Bachelor's or master's degree in computer science, engineering, or a related field.
• Over 7 years of experience in software development, including more than 4 years in a technical leadership capacity.
• Demonstrated expertise in Java, PHP, Angular, and RESTful API development.
• Profound knowledge of cloud platforms, preferably Azure, along with CI/CD, IaC, and DevOps practices.
• Strong skills in both front-end and back-end development using Java, PHP, Angular, HTML5, and CSS3.
• Experience with secure data handling and management of both relational and NoSQL databases.
• Solid understanding of software architecture, design patterns, and system integration.
• Practical experience with AI coding assistants, particularly Claude (Claude Code) and GitHub Copilot, and with AI agents in enterprise environments, including the ability to assess when AI-generated code requires additional scrutiny in regulated settings.
• Familiarity with SonarQube Cloud, Bitbucket, JIRA, and Confluence.
• Ability to excel in a fast-paced, dynamic environment with complex product requirements.
• Outstanding communication, leadership, and stakeholder management abilities.
• At least 2 years of experience leading a small engineering team, running sprint ceremonies, and holding team members accountable for commitments in a role without formal HR authority over reviews or compensation (matrixed/dotted-line leadership).
• Proven track record of proactively identifying and driving initiatives to completion with minimal oversight, supported by specific, verifiable examples.
• Demonstrated experience in automating manual/repetitive engineering workflows and consistently meeting software delivery timelines in a regulated or high-compliance environment.
