Senior AI Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Costa Rica.

📋 Description

• Design and develop high-scale, cloud-native systems that handle millions of vehicle history and transaction requests on a daily basis.

• Take ownership of the design and delivery of high-performance, low-latency APIs and microservices for vehicle history, VIN intelligence, and transaction systems.

• Construct and scale Java/Spring Boot services within AWS for high-throughput, real-time workloads.

• Architect and implement event-driven systems utilizing Kafka/SQS for asynchronous processing and data pipelines.

• Lead the development of complex features, platform enhancements, and proof-of-concept projects.

• Influence decisions regarding system architecture, scalability, and reliability.

• Implement and enhance CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, observability, logging, tracing, and performance tuning.

• Collaborate with product, data, and partner teams on mission-critical integrations and APIs.

• Oversee the complete software development lifecycle from design to operation.

• Mentor engineers through code reviews and provide technical leadership.

• Utilize AI-assisted development tools and incorporate agent-driven capabilities into engineering processes or production systems.

• Develop intelligent features using AI models and APIs.

• Evaluate and productionize outputs generated by AI.

• Optimize AI-powered solutions for latency, cost, reliability, and observability.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Over 10 years of experience (or equivalent) in building large-scale, distributed, high-volume transactional systems.

• Strong knowledge of Java, Spring Boot, microservices architecture, and REST API design.

• Hands-on experience with AWS (compute, storage, containers, networking, security, monitoring).

• Experience in building event-driven architectures (Kafka, SQS, ActiveMQ, or similar).

• Strong familiarity with observability tools (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, Datadog) for debugging and performance enhancement.

• Front-end experience with React, JavaScript, HTML/CSS (full-stack capability preferred).

• Experience with PostgreSQL/DB2 and tuning database performance.

• Solid understanding of Agile methodologies, SDLC, and modern engineering best practices.

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, CloudFormation, or similar).

• Experience working with automotive data, VIN decoding, or vehicle lifecycle systems (preferred but not required).

• Familiarity with high-availability systems (99.9%+ uptime) and strict latency SLAs (preferred but not required).

• Experience with integrating enterprise partners or external APIs at scale (preferred but not required).

• Exposure to AI/ML platforms or deploying AI-powered features in production (preferred but not required).

• Proficiency in using GitHub Copilot, Codex, Cursor, and Claude Code.

• Knowledge of embeddings, fine-tuning, and dataset preparation.

• Experience in prompt design, multi-step orchestration, API-based task execution, and MCP or similar patterns.

• Ability to ensure that AI-generated outputs adhere to enterprise quality, security, and compliance standards.
