Tech Lead – Software Engineering

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Massachusetts.

📋 Description

• Lead a team focused on developing tools for Cengage Learning Platforms.

• Establish and execute an innovative, AI-first roadmap while emphasizing quality and accessibility.

• Serve as the technical lead in collaboration with product and design teams following the Product Operating Model.

• Enhance customer outcomes through regular engagement with stakeholders and insights driven by data.

• Guide, mentor, and cultivate a high-performing engineering team.

• Redesign and streamline software delivery processes utilizing modern tools, automation, and generative AI.

• Facilitate Product Operating Model Discovery activities and maintain continuous engagement with internal and external customers.

• Monitor quality and efficiency improvements using instrumented SDLC tools and provide progress reports to executive teams.

• Manage the balance between technical debt and maintenance tasks alongside new feature development in each sprint.

• Collaborate with partners and customers to create and oversee product backlogs, estimates, and budgets.

• Keep abreast of emerging technologies and industry trends to foster innovation in product roadmaps.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or a comparable combination of education and recent, relevant work experience.

• Over 2 years of experience in technology leadership.

• Proven experience in developing technology strategies, promoting innovation, and leading globally distributed teams.

• Practical knowledge of AI concepts, such as machine learning, LLMs, multimodal models, prompt engineering, AI agents, RAG, and vector databases.

• Hands-on experience with commercial and open-source GenAI technologies and toolkits, including coding assistants, OpenAI, Hugging Face, and LangChain.

• Experience in modernizing legacy or monolithic architectures and transitioning systems to modular, cloud-native platforms.

• Familiarity with implementing hybrid cloud strategies.

• Capability to design and develop APIs that integrate legacy systems with modern solutions.

• Experience in designing and deploying solutions on AWS, GCP, or Azure, including containers, serverless architectures, and cloud storage/compute services.

• Ability to create secure, resilient, scalable, and high-availability enterprise systems for global user bases.

• Extensive experience with agile delivery methodologies, including Scrum, Kanban, or SAFe, and tools like Jira or Azure DevOps.

• Proven success in organizing teams and delivery around a Product Operating Model.

• Strong hands-on expertise in Java development is required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

• Strong hands-on expertise in React or other modern front-end technologies is required, with a minimum of 5 years of experience.

• Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills in distributed, remote-first settings.

• Ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences, including executives.
