Tech Lead – Payments and Billing

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

πŸ“‹ Description

β€’ Oversee the delivery outcomes and engineering standards for the Payments squad.

β€’ Create specifications and design documents.

β€’ Provide constructive feedback on ADRs and review pull requests.

β€’ Tackle complex technical challenges through code or workflows.

β€’ Establish the architectural direction for the payments service.

β€’ Take responsibility for payment accuracy and processing efficiency to minimize costs.

β€’ Define the operational model and pace of the squad.

β€’ Manage sequencing and dependencies effectively.

β€’ Diagnose throughput issues and ensure visibility of squad work to stakeholders.

β€’ Mentor junior engineers while collaborating with senior engineers on challenging problems.

β€’ Identify gaps in promotions and hiring alongside the manager.

β€’ Report directly to the Service Manager for Saldo.


⛳️ Requirements

β€’ Proven experience as a tech lead responsible for a squad's delivery and standards.

β€’ Skilled in writing design documents, reviewing pull requests and ADRs, and resolving problems hands-on while guiding direction.

β€’ Ability to balance hands-on involvement in significant technical challenges with mentoring junior engineers.

β€’ Experience in designing a team's operational framework from the ground up, focusing on speed, quality, and resilience.

β€’ Proven track record of managing cross-team sequencing and dependencies.

β€’ Experience in diagnosing throughput issues.

β€’ Comfortable setting technical direction in uncertain areas.

β€’ Proven ability to drive technical blockers to resolution.

β€’ Familiarity with payments systems (desirable).

β€’ Experience enhancing cost-to-process or processing efficiency in a high-volume service (desirable).

β€’ Experience scaling a service from a basic initial version to a fully operational system (desirable).

β€’ Proficient in English, both spoken and written.
