System Engineer – RF

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland, +1 more state.

📋 Description

• Serve as the Engineer of Record for small to medium-sized projects.

• Design coverage and capacity for microwave systems, RF LMR and BDA systems, WAN networks, and Motorola ASTRO systems.

• Collaborate with customers and consultants throughout design reviews, system staging, acceptance testing, coverage testing, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

• Maintain professional communication in both written and verbal forms.

• Take ownership of technical solutions, problem-solving, project timelines, and customer expectations.

• Work in tandem with project management, engineering teams, technicians, customers, contractors, and vendors.

• Engage with colleagues and specialists for challenging or new tasks.

• Develop design documents and drawings for system construction and configuration.

• Implement, configure, and test IP network-based systems.

• Model and assess radio coverage.

• Assist with the setup and troubleshooting of RF components and systems.

• Configure and troubleshoot applications, operating systems, network devices, servers, and virtualization platforms.

• Debug software installations, analyze log files, and resolve issues in collaboration with development engineers.

• Use scripts or CLI to configure network devices and verify their operation.

• Engage in continuous learning through company training and personal development.

⛳️ Requirements

• Mandatory experience in RF/radio frequency.

• Must be located in Maryland, Delaware, or D.C.

• A Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline is required.

• At least 2 years of engineering or technical experience.

• Legal authorization to work in the U.S. indefinitely is necessary.

• Employer work permit sponsorship is not available.

• Ability to obtain background clearance is required.

• Willingness to travel 25–50% is expected.

• Familiarity with basic RF principles, two-way radio operations, system components, and terminology is essential.

• Knowledge of fundamental IP networking principles, LAN/WAN topologies, system components, and terminology is required.

• Understanding of FDMA and TDMA wireless technologies is needed.

• Familiarity with P25 Land Mobile Radio terminology and subscriber radio provisioning/programming is desired.

• Knowledge of P25 interoperability solutions, including ISSI, Motorola WAVE, Critical Connect, and SmartConnect, is a plus.

• Understanding of Computer Aided Dispatch and public safety software applications is beneficial.

• Knowledge of communications and low-voltage wiring methods is required.

• Experience with both wireless and wireline communications systems is necessary.

• Familiarity with RFDS principles, antennas, cables, transmitter combiners, receiver multi-couplers, and lightning protection is important.

• Experience with AC/DC power systems, generators, UPS, distribution, rectifiers, batteries, and surge protection is required.

• Proficiency with VMware ESXi, Linux, and Microsoft operating systems is needed.

• Experience in constructing communication facilities is essential.

• Familiarity with Fortinet, Nokia 7705, Juniper SRX/MX, and HP/HPE/Aruba networking equipment is a plus.

• Experience with VPN, SSH, SCP, SFTP, and RDP is desirable.

• GROL, Amateur Radio Operator License, or equivalent experience is beneficial.

• Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ are preferred.

• Strong troubleshooting, critical thinking, analytical, communication, and technical writing skills are essential.

• Ability to work independently from a home office, lead customer-facing meetings, collaborate with contractors and vendors, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and learn company software/tools is required.
