System Architect – MDDI, MBSE

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.

📋 Description

• Oversee the development and upkeep of system, operational, data, and integration architecture utilizing MBSE and DoDAF/UAF frameworks.

• Create and manage SysML/UML system models that encompass requirements, interfaces, workflows, and comprehensive mission threads with complete traceability.

• Lead the digital engineering strategy, which includes the adoption of the digital thread, authoritative models, and model-driven decision-making processes.

• Convert business, operational, and technical requirements into scalable solution architectures that support enterprise systems and integrations.

• Establish integration patterns, interface specifications, and interoperability requirements across Department of Defense (DoD) and partner systems.

• Set up architecture governance, modeling standards, and technical baselines; assist in design reviews and briefings for leadership.

• Work collaboratively with engineering, cybersecurity, functional, and program teams to address risks, gaps, and dependencies across domains.

• Contribute to the development of technology roadmaps, transition planning, and implementation strategies for enterprise transformation.

• Support a significant Department of War digital engineering and SAP S/4HANA transformation initiative.

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to devise scalable, integrated solutions and promote the adoption of the digital thread throughout the program lifecycle.

⛳️ Requirements

• U.S. citizenship with an active Secret clearance or the capability to obtain one.

• Over 7 years of experience in designing enterprise, system, or solution architectures within DoD or similar environments.

• Proven systems engineering expertise, including the ability to decompose complex systems and model their structure, behavior, interfaces, and data.

• Proficient in SysML/UML modeling techniques and experienced with well-known MBSE tools (e.g., Cameo, MagicDraw, Sparx EA, Rhapsody, GENESYS).

• Knowledge of DoDAF, UAF, or comparable architecture frameworks.

• Excellent communication skills, including experience in presenting technical concepts to senior stakeholders.

• Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to present technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.

• Creative and adaptable approach to problem-solving.

• Ability to engage with clients to comprehend their needs.

• Strong organizational and time-management abilities.

• Professional demeanor.

• Preferred: Active Secret clearance.

• Preferred: Over 5 years of practical MBSE / digital engineering experience in complex systems environments.

• Preferred: Experience in supporting DoD logistics, transportation, or ERP modernization programs.

• Preferred: Familiarity with integrating COTS/ERP platforms with custom DoD systems.

• Preferred: Understanding of cloud architectures, DevSecOps, or zero trust environments within the DoD (e.g., AWS GovCloud, IL4/IL5).

• Preferred: Knowledge of the DoD acquisition lifecycle and business process reengineering.

• Preferred: Relevant certifications (e.g., INCOSE CSEP/ESEP, OCSMP, TOGAF, SAFe, AWS/Azure).

• Preferred: Ability to work effectively in both team settings and independently.

• Preferred: Strong skills in building customer and vendor relationships.

• Preferred: Demonstrated capability to adhere to data standards and policies.

• Preferred: Motivation to learn new technologies and methodologies that provide value.

• Preferred: Previous experience working with a Federal local government agency.

• Preferred: Experience with the Department of War is advantageous.
