Surgical Coordinator – Orthopedics

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Philippines.

📋 Description

• Oversee and arrange orthopedic surgical procedures involving various surgeons, operating rooms, and surgical facilities.

• Coordinate surgeon availability, facility block times, and patient appointments to enhance operating room productivity.

• Enter and maintain precise surgical cases, pre-operative visits, and post-operative follow-up appointments in AthenaHealth.

• Determine insurance prerequisites and initiate prior authorizations for orthopedic procedures.

• Submit clinical documentation, diagnostic imaging reports, and conservative treatment histories to payers for prompt approvals.

• Monitor authorization statuses, arrange peer-to-peer reviews, and address authorization denials or peer requests.

• Ensure necessary pre-testing and clearances are ordered, completed, and received prior to surgery.

• Confirm that pre-operative clearance documents are uploaded into AthenaHealth and sent to the surgical facility.

• Provide patients with education on pre-operative instructions, medication restrictions, and facility arrival guidelines.

• Act as the primary point of contact for patients preparing for orthopedic surgery.

• Liaise with hospital/ASC scheduling departments, surgical representatives, and practice physicians regarding case readiness.

⛳️ Requirements

• Experience with AthenaHealth EMR is essential, including familiarity with scheduling, clinical charts, and authorization tracking within the system.

• Practical surgical coordination experience in Orthopedics, with knowledge of joint replacements, sports medicine, spine, or fracture care workflows.

• Demonstrated ability to manage complex surgical prior authorizations and track pre-operative clearance/testing requirements.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English, maintaining professionalism at all times.

• Outstanding organizational abilities to handle multiple surgical cases concurrently while meeting critical deadlines.
