This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Deliver technical leadership, oversee department management, and ensure project execution for structural engineering tasks.
• Plan, organize, direct, and evaluate the resources and activities of the structural engineering department.
• Engage in creating new business opportunities and enhancing existing ones.
• Act as a technical liaison to provide customer support and assist regional business development efforts.
• Recruit personnel, set goals and expectations, and carry out performance evaluations.
• Lead, develop, supervise, and offer technical guidance to team members.
• Formulate and implement operational plans for staffing, workload management, tools, resources, and technical skill enhancement.
• Create and enforce policies, standards, procedures, and quality assurance practices.
• Serve as Project Manager, Lead Structural Engineer, Structural Engineer of Record, and/or Senior Engineer for various projects.
• Prepare or oversee engineering proposals, scopes of work, timelines, and cost assessments.
• Create, review, and verify structural calculations, designs, drawings, models, specifications, and project documentation.
• Establish and maintain technical standards, design guides, specifications, calculation templates, and design references.
• Assist in recruitment and training initiatives across Orbital offices.
• Ensure that department and project operations adhere to Orbital’s Project Management system.
• Manage projects of varying lengths while balancing long-term strategies with quick turnaround requirements.
• Occasionally perform field engineering tasks, attend client meetings, engage in business development travel, and travel to Orbital offices or project locations.
• Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, Architectural Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline with a focus on structures.
• A PE license is mandatory.
• At least ten years of relevant engineering experience is required.
• Experience in heavy industrial settings and markets is preferred.
• Technical expertise in structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, foundations, pipe supports, equipment supports, platforms, access structures, industrial buildings, and relevant structural design codes and standards.
• Background in managing engineering teams and/or departments, ideally in a consulting engineering context.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with clients and engineering professionals.
• Strong understanding and proficiency in current software applications, including business enterprise and project management tools, as well as structural analysis, design, drafting, and document review software.
• Project management training and/or PMP certification is preferred.
• Experience in project management and familiarity with project management principles/tools is preferred.
• Familiarity with structural analysis and design software such as STAAD, RAM, RISA, Tekla Tedds, Revit, Navisworks, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, or similar tools is preferred.
