Structural Engineer – Project Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Oversee structural engineering projects from initiation through design, coordination, delivery, and completion.

• Facilitate communication with clients and stakeholders alongside consultants, contractors, fabricators, detailers, and erectors.

• Manage project scope, timelines, budgets, resources, deliverables, engineering hours, and associated risks.

• Design, analyze, and review structural systems while offering technical leadership and oversight.

• Evaluate calculations, drawings, specifications, and engineering outputs for precision, quality, and compliance with codes.

• Coordinate structural engineering needs with detailing, fabrication, erection, architectural, and other disciplines.

• Handle RFIs, design changes, scope modifications, technical challenges, and change orders.

• Lead project meetings, communicating project status, priorities, risks, and decisions.

• Assist in proposals, scopes of work, fee assessments, schedules, and project planning.

• Mentor junior engineers and technical staff while fostering quality, efficiency, and ongoing improvement.

• Cultivate strong client relationships through responsive communication and successful project execution.

• Engage in projects designed to CISC and AISC standards, with AISC projects managed through the U.S. firm.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.

• Licensed Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Canada, or eligible for registration.

• A minimum of 4+ years of structural engineering experience, demonstrating project coordination or management duties.

• Strong structural engineering foundation with knowledge of building codes, design standards, materials, and construction methods.

• In-depth knowledge of structural steel design, detailing, fabrication, and erection.

• Experience in managing project timelines, deliverables, budgets, and client communications.

• Familiarity with applicable Canadian building codes and structural design standards.

• Must have legal eligibility to work in Canada.

• Must be willing and able to travel to the United States as necessary.

• Proven ability to manage engineering projects, schedules, budgets, priorities, and multidisciplinary teams.

• Capability to balance technical requirements with constructability, timelines, budgets, and client expectations.

• Strong leadership, decision-making, organizational, and problem-solving abilities.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

• Proactive, detail-oriented, and adept at successfully managing multiple projects simultaneously.

• Experience collaborating with architects, consultants, contractors, steel fabricators, detailers, and erectors is beneficial.

• Familiarity with Tekla Structural Designer, Excel, IDEA StatiCa, Bluebeam, RISA Suite, Revit, or RAM Connection is advantageous.

• A Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering is considered a plus.

• Knowledge of AISC standards and U.S. structural steel projects is regarded as an asset.
