
Strategic Content and Storytelling Manager – Africa Region

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Kenya, +5 more countries.
• Define and propel the content vision, editorial strategy, and storytelling agenda for TNC Africa Region.
• Craft engaging narratives that highlight conservation impact, community and partner voices, donor involvement, organizational influence, and alignment with our mission.
• Transform intricate conservation, scientific, and community-based efforts into captivating stories.
• Oversee the complete storytelling process from identifying stories and field reporting to writing, editing, multimedia production, publishing, and analyzing performance.
• Develop and manage the Africa content and storytelling strategy that aligns with regional priorities, conservation goals, philanthropic objectives, and brand standards.
• Establish a clear editorial vision and outline an annual storytelling roadmap.
• Guide content planning and ensure a steady flow of impactful stories.
• Specify storytelling frameworks, editorial standards, voice, tone, and content governance practices.
• Provide strategic storytelling advice to leadership and program teams.
• Recognize emerging stories, trends, and content opportunities.
• Research and cultivate stories from landscapes, communities, Indigenous Peoples, practitioners, scientists, donors, partners, and staff.
• Create feature stories, long-form articles, case studies, donor narratives, scripts, blogs, and impact reports.
• Conduct interviews and collect firsthand information.
• Lead multimedia projects that include video, photography, audio, and digital content.
• Travel to field locations for reporting, interviews, story collection, and content production.
• Develop creative briefs and storytelling concepts.
• Collaborate with photographers, videographers, designers, editors, creative agencies, and production partners.
• Manage content production workflows and oversee approved content asset libraries.
• Assess content effectiveness using audience insights, analytics, and engagement metrics.
• Evaluate performance across channels and recommend data-driven enhancements.
• Measure storytelling effectiveness in relation to donor engagement, partnerships, and organizational visibility.
• Collaborate with philanthropy, conservation, science, policy, country, and digital teams.
• Provide editorial support and guidance throughout the Africa region.
• Review, edit, and enhance internal and external partner content.
• Act as a subject matter expert in storytelling and content development.
• Build networks and partnerships to elevate African stories for global visibility.
• Report directly to the Director of Marketing & Communications - Africa.
• Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, English, or a related field and a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Outstanding writing, editing, interviewing, and narrative development abilities.
• Proven experience in developing content strategies and managing editorial pipelines.
• Experience creating content across written, digital, visual, and multimedia platforms.
• Over 8 years of professional experience in content strategy, editorial leadership, journalism, storytelling, publishing, or multimedia content development (preferred).
• Background in conservation, environmental, development, sustainability, or nonprofit sectors (preferred).
• Experience in journalism, documentary storytelling, or editorial publishing (preferred).
• Proven track record of producing stories for donor, philanthropic, and partnership audiences (preferred).
• Familiarity with digital content performance metrics and audience engagement strategies (preferred).
• Experience working across various African countries and cultures (preferred).
• Strong understanding of ethical storytelling, representation, and inclusive narrative practices (preferred).
• A robust portfolio showcasing impactful storytelling and editorial leadership (preferred).
• Experience in gathering stories through direct field reporting and stakeholder interviews (preferred).
• Excellent project management skills with the ability to manage multiple content initiatives concurrently (preferred).
• Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills across diverse cultures, functions, locations, and time zones (preferred).
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Possession of a valid driver's license and compliance with TNC’s Auto Safety Program.
• Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement, which may include a review of motor vehicle records.
• Ability to work in a country where TNC has offices: Kenya, Tanzania, Gabon, Zambia, South Africa, or Angola.
