This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +5 more states.
• Drive highly ambiguous projects from problem identification to delivery.
• Establish technical strategy and make architectural choices for systems that span multiple teams and areas.
• Recognize cross-team gaps and missed opportunities, and implement strategies to address them.
• Develop, test, and continuously deploy software, with daily or more frequent deployments.
• Create and assess technical specifications while maintaining high engineering quality standards.
• Collaborate with PMs, designers, internal clients, and stakeholders to address the right issues.
• Mentor and support engineers throughout the organization.
• Investigate production issues, enhance system reliability, and provide necessary service support.
• Define technical direction for core accounting systems behind Pilot’s bookkeeping and influence outcomes across various teams.
• Over 7 years of experience as a software engineer.
• Proficient in Python within production environments.
• Proven history of leading complex, multi-team technical projects to successful outcomes.
• Capability to establish technical direction and gain buy-in across teams and functions.
• Strong coding fundamentals with the ability to produce clean, maintainable, and well-tested code.
• Good judgment regarding products and systems, particularly in ambiguous or evolving problem areas.
• Excellent communication skills and comfort in working cross-functionally.
• Experience collaborating effectively within a remote team, including strong asynchronous and written communication practices.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor, sponsor, and elevate other engineers.
• Position available for remote work in the United States, specifically in CA, GA, NY, NC, TN, TX, and WA.
• Nice to have: Experience with Vue in a production setting.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with accounting systems, double-entry bookkeeping, or revenue recognition.
• Nice to have: Understanding of agentic or AI-assisted systems in production environments.
