Staff Software Engineer – Smart Wallet, Account Abstraction

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the technical strategy and architecture for Xsolla's smart wallet platform, encompassing account models, signing, session management, and gas abstraction.

• Design and enhance the ERC-4337 UserOperation lifecycle, EIP-7702 delegation, deterministic identity-based address derivation, session keys, and permission primitives.

• Establish paymaster and gas-sponsorship strategies, including metering, caps, abuse prevention, and fallback behaviors.

• Oversee security for the dApp-facing signer surface, including provider behavior, origin-bound sessions, trust tiers, and transaction/signature confirmations.

• Lead the roadmap for custody and recovery, including MPC-based custody, passkeys, guardians, and social recovery.

• Facilitate cross-team decision-making regarding account architecture, SDK contracts, data modeling, and platform reliability.

• Identify and mitigate systemic risks related to key management, phishing, reorgs, indexer staleness, bundlers, RPC dependencies, and contract upgrades.

• Define engineering standards, review critical code/contracts/designs, and provide documentation, tooling, and mentorship.

• Collaborate with engineering, product, security, legal, and infrastructure stakeholders.

• Act as the escalation point for complex production wallet and account-abstraction challenges.

• Manage the smart wallet and account abstraction layer for Xsolla's Web3 platform, including Xsolla ZK and the wallet integrated into the Xsolla App.

⛳️ Requirements

• In-depth, hands-on understanding of ERC-4337, including EntryPoint v0.6–v0.8, UserOperation lifecycle, bundlers, paymasters, ERC-7562, gas estimation, counterfactual deployment, and ERC-6492.

• Familiarity with EIP-7702 and its associated risks.

• Experience in building or extending production smart account implementations such as Safe, Kernel, Biconomy, or Coinbase Smart Wallet.

• Proficiency in designing session keys, delegated permissions, origin binding, revocation, and ERC-7710/ERC-7715.

• Practical knowledge of EIP-712, ERC-1271, WebAuthn/passkeys, EIP-1193, EIP-6963, EIP-5792, and ERC-7677.

• Experience in designing or managing a production smart wallet or account abstraction system serving real users and delivering real value.

• Significant engineering experience at a large crypto product or protocol organization, or a comparable wallet, exchange, or account-abstraction infrastructure team.

• Experience working in systems where bugs could lead to lost funds, with established guardrails, reviews, and rollback procedures.

• Capability to read, review, and develop Solidity account, paymaster, and module contracts.

• Knowledge of gas-aware design, upgradeability and migration patterns, along with experience with external auditors.

• Understanding of L2 execution differences, zkSync-family chains, transaction and fee models, finality, reorgs, RPC, and indexer semantics.

• Strong Go engineering skills, including idiomatic coding, concurrency, and performance profiling.

• Ability to design and manage TypeScript client-side SDK surfaces.

• Experience with distributed systems and a solid understanding of consistency, availability, and failure modes.

• Proficiency in PostgreSQL schema design, query optimization, and large-scale migrations.

• Experience with Kubernetes deployment, operations, and debugging.

• Familiarity with Kafka or NATS and event-driven messaging patterns.

• Proficiency in Git and modern CI/CD practices.

• Experience in production key management using Keychain/Keystore, HSMs, MPC, or threshold signing.

• Strong wallet threat-modeling knowledge.

• Proven ability to lead multi-quarter technical initiatives across teams.

• Track record of influencing architecture and standards beyond the immediate team.

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to create effective RFCs and design documents.
