This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Act as the lead engineer for the main scheduling and orchestration subsystems within the Compute platform.
• Oversee the product development and engineering of a Minimum Viable Product (MVP) for autonomous scheduling across a network of compute nodes.
• Expand the MVP from a small number of satellites to larger fleets, ensuring data sovereignty is a key feature of the product.
• Design and construct a distributed computing engine with a focus on performance, reliability, and security as essential components.
• Develop scheduling, orchestration, and workload placement strategies for edge computing environments.
• Consider factors such as intermittent or disconnected connectivity, limited resources, and autonomous operations.
• Collaborate with software, hardware, security, and systems engineers to provide solutions that meet customer needs.
• Deliver technical leadership and mentorship within the team.
• Engage in constructive feedback during collaborative efforts, as well as during design and code reviews.
• Deliver results iteratively and swiftly within a dynamic environment characterized by significant ambiguity.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, another relevant technical field, or equivalent professional experience.
• Over 8 years of professional software development experience.
• Strong expertise in a systems programming language such as Go, Rust, C++, or Java.
• Extensive experience in designing, building, and managing distributed systems at scale.
• Familiarity with scheduling, orchestration, or resource management systems like Kubernetes, Nomad, or custom orchestrators.
• Proven experience in transforming products from MVP or proof of concept to production scale.
• Background in engineering for performance, reliability, and fault tolerance in distributed environments.
• Proficient in using git distributions like GitLab and CI/CD tools.
• History of achieving results in ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
• Demonstrated ability to proactively solve problems and positively address challenging issues.
• Strong organizational skills to meet tight deadlines while delivering high-quality results.
• Preferred experience in treating security and/or data sovereignty as essential product requirements.
• Preferred experience with autonomous, self-managing, or self-healing systems.
