Staff Software Engineer, Backend – Payments Platform

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of the multi-year technical strategy and architecture for the Payments platform.

• Outline the roadmap for enhancing integrations, routing, and funds-flow systems on a global scale.

• Develop and advance distributed systems that handle high-volume payment transactions.

• Design solutions that ensure fault isolation, graceful degradation, observability, and well-defined SLOs for Tier-0/Tier-1 services.

• Create paved roads, shared frameworks, and coding standards within the Payments team and related organizations.

• Collaborate with Product, Risk, Compliance, and Operations teams to convert business needs into technical solutions.

• Lead initiatives focused on scaling and reliability, and implement improvements based on incident postmortems.

• Provide mentorship to engineers through practical guidance, design reviews, and architectural direction.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in software engineering.

• Practical experience in developing payment systems, financial infrastructure, or platforms handling high transaction volumes.

• Proven history of architecting and delivering highly reliable, fault-tolerant distributed systems at scale.

• Experience managing billions of dollars in transaction volume.

• Background in leading platform development initiatives that unified fragmented services into cohesive, reusable systems.

• Demonstrated ability to take ownership of production reliability, lead high-severity incident responses, and drive systemic enhancements across various teams or domains.

• Experience in influencing technical direction across teams and organizations without direct authority.

• Ability to represent an area in organization-wide architecture and strategy discussions.

• Responsible use of generative AI with appropriate human oversight.
