Staff Software Engineer – Backend, Consumer – Agentic Trading

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Take ownership of backend services that support Coinbase Advisor and Strategies from the initial technical design stage through to launch and ongoing maintenance.

• Create integrations with Coinbase trading APIs to ensure accurate and auditable execution of agent recommendations and user-defined strategies.

• Develop the agentic harness, which includes tool invocation, orchestration, maintaining persistent state, and recovery from failed or partially completed tasks.

• Influence agent behavior through prompt engineering, evaluations, and analysis of conversations.

• Collaborate with the registered investment adviser on modifications to financial advice.

• Enhance service reliability, latency, observability, execution safety, retry mechanisms, and safeguards to prevent duplicate actions.

• Work in partnership with frontend engineering, product, design, trading infrastructure, and legal/compliance teams.

• Deliver customer-facing features while adhering to regulatory constraints.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 5 years of professional experience in software engineering.

• Extensive backend knowledge with proven experience in deploying and managing production services.

• Strong background in API design, distributed systems, data modeling, testing, and troubleshooting production issues.

• Proficient in Go or a demonstrated aptitude to quickly learn it.

• Experience in developing production LLM or agentic systems, including tool invocation, orchestration, or evaluation.

• Capable of driving ambiguous projects from inception to production with minimal supervision, showcasing sound product and technical judgment.

• Committed to the responsible use of generative AI under human oversight.

• Ability to operate within regulatory boundaries.
