Staff Backend Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Design and create highly scalable backend services that prioritize performance and security.

• Collaborate with designers, scientists, and engineers to provide solutions for laboratory challenges.

• Assist in defining technical and product directions, including the identification of product features and implementation strategies.

• Maintain constant high-availability of services through reliability practices, detailed observability, and participation in on-call rotations.

• Engage in code reviews and troubleshoot issues related to performance or security.

• Promote healthy and maintainable software development practices.

• Enhance a hybrid object/graph multi-tenant data storage solution for biology and chemistry experiments.

• Create services to collect real-time sensor data from laboratories for operator feedback and cloud processing.

• Develop services for the secure distribution and execution of simulation, analysis, and testing code within SLL.

• Collaborate with the Scientific Development team on data storage, retrieval, and search functionalities in SLL.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 8 years of experience in backend development for products and enterprise software.

• More than 6 years of practical experience in Cloud or AWS development.

• Proficient in database technologies, including SQL and NoSQL.

• Experience working in startup environments or small, growing companies.

• Full lifecycle experience in software product development.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Kubernetes and Docker for containerization.

• Preferred: Experience with distributed systems.

• Preferred: Strong problem-solving abilities and meticulous attention to detail.

• Preferred: Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and modern build tools.

• Preferred: Exposure to cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), containers, and observability tools.

• Experience in backend services using Go, Python, or Rust.

• Relevant experience with AWS, Docker, and Kubernetes relating to the specified technology stack.
