Staff Software Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the design and execution of intricate technical initiatives that impact the entire platform across various teams.

• Define the technical roadmap and set engineering standards that span multiple teams.

• Facilitate architecture and design evaluations for scalable, secure, and maintainable solutions.

• Collaborate with engineering leadership, product management, and technical experts to convert business objectives into technical strategies.

• Promote the adoption of AI-enhanced and autonomous software development methodologies while ensuring quality, security, and maintainability standards.

• Assess and implement technologies, frameworks, and tools that enhance developer efficiency and system quality.

• Write and review code of production quality while remaining actively engaged with the codebase.

• Engage in incident response, taking ownership of root cause analysis, systemic remediation, and sustainable improvements.

• Identify and mitigate systemic scalability, performance, and security vulnerabilities.

• Provide mentorship and coaching to engineers throughout the engineering organization.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 8 years of professional software engineering experience.

• Significant experience with Ruby on Rails and a contemporary JavaScript framework.

• Demonstrated history of growth and technical leadership.

• Capability to design and develop high-quality, high-performance, and highly available web applications and distributed systems at scale.

• In-depth knowledge of service-oriented architectures, event-driven systems, and web application design principles.

• Experience in creating and implementing automated unit, integration, and end-to-end testing strategies.

• Practical experience with AI tools and workflows, including Claude Code and GitHub Copilot.

• Familiarity with security practices and CI/CD methodologies.

• Experience in deploying, monitoring, and managing applications on AWS, GCP, or Heroku.

• Proficiency with automated deployment pipelines and observability tools such as OpenTelemetry, Honeycomb, or Datadog.

• Proven ability to mentor and uplift fellow engineers.

• Outstanding communication and collaboration abilities; skilled at influencing technical decisions across teams without having direct authority.

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.

• Additional qualifications include experience with accounting or financial software; familiarity with law firms, legal practice, law firm billing, and accounting; knowledge of Ember.js; and technical leadership experience without formal people management responsibilities.
